16-18 Year olds in MASS

I am going to be getting my license soon, wondering what insurance would be for a 98 escort zx2 (or something similar pref. a 4 cyl), I got people saying $1.5-3k/year. I beleive it but I think it'll be on the lower spectrium.

When I was 16, I looked at Progressive and Geico and they were both $3k to $5k a year if by myself in a 2dr civic.

Went on my parents plan and it was $180 a month ($2,160/yr). Then I applied for the good student discount, and I took a Drivers Ed class which gave a discount and it went down to about $140/mo ($1680/yr).

Now almost 5 years later still with the good student discount, with the Drivers Ed class, and 2 speeding tickets later, I pay $120/mo still on my parent's insurance for the same 2dr car.

Insurance is pricy.

I can forget about that good student discount lol, and I have to take drivers ed so that should bring it down.

For me to be on my parents policy it'd be a fortune more, because it defaults to the highest vehicle and my dad has an Escalade so it would be that.

Better start saving my pennies I guess.

if you get full coverage (collision w/low deductible) then that figure sounds right for an inexperienced driver. if you just get just the compulsory insurance then it will probably be in the low to mid $1000's. if you up your coverage (especially adding collision) then the yearly cost will be significantly higher. for an old/cheap car like a 98 Escort then it may not be worth paying for collision. I'm not trying to insult you or your car, but if the car is only worth ~$2000 then it's not worth spending more than that on insurance

the only way to know what you'll have to pay is to get quotes from the insurance companies (or agents). don't settle for the first quote you get. call multiple insurance companies to get quotes or goto a trusted insurance agent who deals with multiple insurance companies so they can choose the best insurer/plan for you.

under the MA SDIP program; you're an inexperienced driver for the first 3 years, so expect to pay higher than average rates for a few years (an expect to pay alot more if you get tickets and/or accidents).

Brings up a good point, I should have stated that I have full coverage with a low deductable.

Also, the escalade doesnt matter as much as you think. We have 2 almost new Lexus' (or maybe it is like octopus and it's "Lexi") on the same plan along with my car and my sisters car. Also the house is on it I believe.

The good student discount is a big plus though. it is usually 15% to 20% off which the higher the premium, the bigger the discount. Do better in school!

AAA sometimes has good rates....

You might want to check them out... but you have to be a member... it might pay for itself seeing how much you might save....
