The coolness of the mod is related to the risk envolved. Windowed harddrives are one of the top things on that list. Also, direct-die watercooling, motherboard soldering, and monitor mods (those are very dangerous though)
CompUSA and Computer Renaissance now sell pre-modded and mod-it-yourself cases. Windows, laser cut fan grills, cold cathode lighting, even a fancy-dancy do it yourself window cutter.
That's just sick.
Nothing tops my windowed harddrive, though. 1 year and still running strong.

Project AutoBoxen: Coming along, almost ready to hook up in the car.
Celeron 500, 192mb ram, 8gb hdd, other stuff.
'91 Mazda 626: Its free, so ill use it.
I agree it has become a YUPPIE thing now, if you got money all you have to do is purchase one of these pre-made mods and you are done. Its gonna be harder and harder to out do em nowadays, although a windowed HD is hardcore.
I would like some pics got any?
I remember the days of looking on Virtual-hideout.net, and looking through all the cases back when they only had a few pages of MODs. Now it seems most people are on the bandwagon. I do have to say there are a few people who still come up with some original ideas.
Heh, yeah, I totally remember when virtual-hideout came on the scene. altho there still is a lot of original stuff out there. all the premoded stuff has just caused those who originated the "art" to take it to another level, ie pheaton forums, where a lot of the cases now are completely custom made.Originally posted by Defiler

Blah Blah Blah, whine and cry.
In this world, everything becomes commercialized because there is DEMAND. People like cool cases, therefore stores start carrying them. Do you really think that any "hardcore" case modders are really going to go out and buy a pre-modded case from CompUSA? Hell no. They will continue on what they started, making unique and incredible creations. Just because cookie cutter pre-modded cases are commercially available does not make case modding any less valid or uncool.
Are Hot Rods dead because Chrysler made the Prowler or PT Cruiser?
