From my experience they just dont bother to check the signature.
Ive started sigining my slips totally differently to hte sig on the back of the card, and no one has mentioned it.
People dont want to offend the card holder, and they really dont care if it is fraud or not. Why would a cashier really care?!?

It's about time we had photos on the back of our cards. Plenty of other countries do it, so why not the UK.
The card companies are always going on about fraud yet are doing little to stop it.
A photo card with pin number to "sign for" is a much better solution, ffs its the 21 century!

Heh, back when I got one of my first credit cards, I called in and activated it, but forgot to sign the back. So after using it a few times, someone actually looked at the back (at a best buy I believe) and pointed out that it wasnt signed on the back, handed it to me, I signed the back of the card standing at the counter, and handed it back. Theres some good security

A friend of mine doesn't sign the card. He instead prints "Please ask for license."

In Sweden some shops doesnt even ask for a signature, some asks for license and takes the birth-code, but no one has ever checked the signature on the back of my visa...

At some places you get to enter your pin-code as at the atm-machines, thats pretty good too.

Very very risky. When someone gets your card, they can sign it for you and buy stuff for you too. Hell, the store holder can check the signature and have it check out good too.

i have been told that by many people after having worked in retail....

but if you think about it, it is the LEAST secure way to protect your credit card... picture this...

Joe Criminal is walking down the street, and he sees a credit card. Joe pickes it up. The card belongs Dave Law-Abider... if the card is already signed, then Joe Criminal has to learn how to sign Dave Law-Abider's name, close enough to fool a store employee. If the card is NOT signed, then Joe Criminal can sign the back of the card, in his own handwriting style... but with ole' Dave's full name. Its pretty easy to sign someone elses name, in your own handwriting.... isnt it!!!!

Like I said, if you think about it, it is probably the worst way to protect your cards.

Sign the card and state to ask for id or drivers license on the signature strip. If the card just states "ask for ID" anyone can go and have a card made with any address as long as it has the same first and last name on the thing with their picture.

I've seen cards that do not swipe yet name and id match but it seems fishy when every card in the guys wallet dont swipe and he has this stupid *** grin on his face. People forget that fake ids are easy to get.

I know is as long as you check ID and signatures, you are covered from the credit card company even if its fraud.
