These questions refer to a versatile trunk/cargo area storage solution. (Basically a structure/device that would constrain random items, grocery bags, etc in your trunk or cargo area.)

Would you find a use for this type of item?

Have you tried other products or methods that would produce similar results? What were they? How did they perform?

What types of things do you need to secure?

How much would you be willing to pay for something to solve this problem?

How frequently do you need to constrain items in your cargo area?

Would you want it to be permanent or removable? What if it slid out of the main space or collapsed flat?

EVO X stock pop-up 3 section storage thingy, it works well but its to tall for my truck to be usful.

cloths, jumper cables, paper towels, etc.

Yes

Crate, or stuffing stuff in places where they wouldn't move. The crate works well, except it's still mobile, so in case of hard braking, there it goes.

Tools, jumper cables, stuff removed from in the cabin to make room for people to sit, computer equipment that may need repair.

$20-30 maybe, depending on its complexity.

Almost daily.

Removable or completely collapsible, sometimes I need all the trunk space I can get.

Pretty calm mostly, although my gf says I drive like crazy. I like to anticipate what others may do so as to avoid having to react at the last second.

milk crate, plastic storage bin, tool boxes,
ammo dry box,

They all worked ok except sliding around, the milk crate and
plastic storage bin seam to work better

tools, first aid kit, fire extinguisher,
emergency food and water, air pump,
tire tools/jack, blanket, maps,
paper work, car and hand wipes,
glass cleaner, flash light and extra batteries,
jumper cables, paper towels,

I have seen a thing called a "Trunk Pack" on some Ford cop cars
and another thing that looks like a big black topless box that fills one
side of the trunk, there are a lot of "Trunk organizers" for cop cars
but most of the ones I have seen for regular cars look like a crappy
fabric bag with wires holding its shape - I don't want that

You should have seen the internet when I was a teen, no ads, pop ups,
or spam, and when you searched for something - you found it, no matter
how obscure, it was perfect, that was in the early 90s

LOL yup, it was great without all the bandwidth clog of today. Of course we were probably on a 9600 baud modem.

For the OP.

Regarding a simple storage solution, the corvette coupe has a large (27 cu ft.) cargo area and stuff will slide around annoyingly. Their solution is pretty simple (and elegant IMO).

A simple cargo net, Four hooks (two on each side), net looks like a volleyball net when installed but he top opens. Its basically like a wide short bag suspended between the four hooks.

I use the heck out of that thing. The top is elastic so it sort of holds what you drop in there inside the bag. You can drop odd shaped things, like small bags of groceries to large bulky stuff like a regular sized desktop computer in there or a case of bottled water and it conforms to the load and holds it pretty securely.

My car had one when I got it, but I see them offered for $259 (although how they can justify that price for a nylon net, no matter how well constructed, is beyond me, we call it the "vette tax").

Jistari: I know what you are talking about on the Corvettes. Although in my opinion, cargo nets are better than nothing but leave a LOT to be desired.
