My favorite comment on that article:
I have a better system is the car however - my wife - woe betide me if I exceed the limited, she is worse than the satnav and she is not a driver.

Basically on everyday driving it limits the engine to a certain MPH, but when you get to a race track it turns off the limiter. This is on the Japanese GTR, not sure about other countries. It works also using GPS like the one in the article. How does speeding cause congestion? Yes I do admit that it may cause accidents, which then cause congestion, but still.... If I bought a Mercedes and it did that! OMG I'd run back to the dealership so fast and return that car. Since America is so far behind with that stuff (they are just now starting speed cams) I don't think we will have to worry about this for some time. Still though the thought is revolting.

PS: wouldn't it be terrible if you were in a street race racing a car you knew you could beat, then all of a sudden that speed limit device kicked in and you lost..... That would be so embarrassing.

I wouldn't want it in my car, but I WOULD want it in my kids' car when they get old enough to drive!

However, I DON'T want the government to mandate it -that's for sure!

Why does the UK gov't seem to be at the leading edge of all this control? Speed cameras everywhere, video cams on every corner, now speed control? What's next?

Well, that'll take the car companies out. They are struggling enough already, this is the final blow. No one will buy them.

Britain's just dumb. They ban smoking and driving, but thats not nearly as distracting as your kids in the back. I'd never smoke but thats just stupid.

Plus, speed extremely rarely causes accidents. Its the person not paying attention and the absolutely shameful driving schools we (and Britain) have.

I agree 100%.... Everytime I see a driving school car, they drive so slow and terrible. They teach people to focus on signs and roads, but not the other cars driving with you.

I personally don't think it is that big of a deal as long as it is only used on public roads. Speeding can be attributed at least in part to a lot of accidents. Let them try it out, we'll see if it helps or makes things worse. Let them be the guinea pigs!

I can think of so many things wrong with this device that I'm not even going to bother listing them. This thing can potentially cause more accidents than it could save.

But... I can se ONE great advantage with this... Get those that drive to slow, to keep them up to the speed limit...
