    Electronic Circuit Help - Flip-Flop

    Trying to design a circuit to switch between lamp 1, lamp 2, and off in order. I know there are flip flop circuits to switch between two LEDs, but it's just not what I'm trying to do. I just can't figure out this puzzle. Any help? ^_^;

    You coudl use a 74LS193 combined with a 74LS138. Wire the "3" decoded output from the 74LS138 back to the master reset of the 74LS193. The system will then count 0, 1, 2, 0, 1, 2 over and over. Use 0, 1 outputs to drive your lamps.
    When 2 is active, that will be the off stage. You can add lamps or change the sequence by moving the reset tap on the 74LS138.

    You may need the non inverting output version of th 74LS138 (can't remember the exact part number atm).

    or you could just get a single pole tripple throw switch?

    or you could wire three flip flops in series, and use the push buton for the clock

    I would love to, but I have room for exactly one switch.

    why cant you use a 3 position "on off on" switch like this?

    ground the 2 lamps. The center pin goes to positive, lamp 1 goes to top pin (depends on how you look at the switch), lamp 2 goes to bottom pin. The on off on switch will do exactly what you want.

    Ah, I misunderstood, I thought he wanted it to do all three states in order, with no possibility of user error (and potentially automated). A three position switch (center-off) would give you the sequence lamp1on, off lamp2on, off, lamp1on, off, etc...

    Use a 555 chip in a low frequency astable mode, connect its output to one side of a push button switch, connect the other side (of the switch) to the clock input of a 4017 counter.
    Arrange the counter outputs like this:

    0utput 1 to control lamp 1
    0utput 2 to control lamp 2
    0utput 3 unconnected
    0utput 4 to 4017's reset pin, the counter will reset (duh!) and will turn output 1 on again.
