I can't see it amounting to even 1% of one year model, and even then the parts aren't going to be from wrecks. They're rust buckets and poor maintenance vehicles. Are you sure you're going to miss out?

Oh yes, I'm sure there were no usable parts left. BTW, why are there so many used parts on ebay all of a sudden? LOL
just for clarification, i thought that the program stated that the engine must be disabled, but that the rest of the car could be parted out? i thought the program just wanted to make sure that the car would never be sold as a used car ever again.
it still makes my blood boil-- i drove past a lot of dealers during the program and saw cars that were traded in that i would consider selling my car for... and then there is the fact that it removes one of the most common parts that everyone relies on when they don't want to buy brand new parts.
i am right there with some of the other comments about what it does to junk yards when they crush the car-- my first stop for any parts i need is always my local Pick-And-Pull.
you guys are missing the other point of the program.. to get these low mpg cars off the road. Salvaging the parts would have simply prolonged the amount of the time others with the same vehicle types that didn't participate in the program drove the cars that are bad for the "environment"

If the junkyard that the "clunkers" are sent to decides not to crush them, but allow them to be parted out, then they can. But, most junkyards around here don't even bother with them because there are so many. I have a strong feeling that the "classics" that make it will be saved, but the rest will be crushed. Also, the dealer cannot take the parts unless they purchase them through the junkyard.

Watch that video that was posted. Consider the thousands upon thousands of vehicles that is being done to. Factor in the smoke and the amount of vehicles that will be putting out that smoke before this is all said and done. How much better for the environment is that?

that is kind of the feeling i got from the articles i read on it.
also, the classic car clubs lobbied for a while to make sure that there was the "no older than 1984" clause. i remember reading it in my brothers classic car mags-- these old car buffs got nightmares when they had the thought that someone might try to turn in a 70's chevelle, etc...
