I went from a Storm to a Droid, both of which used microUSB, so I was set

I have a droid since the day it came out, and I feel that for my needs it would be a perfect solution for a CarPC, maybe not the most integrated like some front ends that are on these forums, but functionality wise, it would do everything I need and more. the video out is the biggest set back in accomplishing this however. There is no easy way to make it a fully integrated solution.

I saw somewhere else on mp3car, the person that pseudo-integrated his Archos 5 (android based PMP), which is going in the right direction in my opinion, but with no google navigation (either because its not running 2.0, or because its not a 3g device), its a deal breaker. But i'm going to be patiently waiting for a 3g tablet like the Archos, because I think that 2.0+ with 3g, and google nav would make a CarPC thats much less of a hassle, and very functional.

It seems like many people are warming up to the idea of smartphones/PMP's replacing CarPC's.

It works on an EEE, with google maps+navigation

Just no 3g of course so you'd need your own data card. That + touchpanel for the EEE and you're set.

The pseudo-integration was done by me here Archos 5 IMT Install

And yes, although not being a 3G phone, Google maps etc can be made available easily with a Mifi as described in the above post.

Future is PMP for car and not all that wiring, one hundred usb sticks car pc builds. I did two before believe me.

Being an iPhone developer I think Android is actually a great platform that is going places. Both platforms have their place and will both do great. I haven't picked up an Android device yet, the Droid (Milestone) is nice but a bit thick for me. I may grab a Nexus One once it supports AT&T's 3G in the US. I also see a lot of promise for Android to move onto all types of devices, specially car PCs.

I would love to have android on a PC base machine. I sit and think of all the things I can do with my phone, and if i could have it in the carpc it would be amazing. Voice searching google, dialing contacts, GOOGLE Navigation, It would be phenominal

Since I haven't gotten one yet, what would it take to get a "stereo widening" feature on the Droid or Eris like nokia has on almost all their phones for headphone listening?

My brother has been having problems with his where he will sound muffled all of the sudden while talking and all he has to do it take it away from his face and put it back and it starts working again. There is a forum topic on the droid website about a lot of people having these same problems which they accredited to the hard case protector moving around but it doesn't move at all.
