why spam?
after the recent spam invasion, i am extremely annoyed-- to the point that the spammer is making posts faster then i can report them.. so i need to vent-- otherwise i am tempted to try to hunt this guy down and get him to locate some sense in that thing some call a brain.
i'm serious-- why is spamming worth anything. it aggravates me, and as such, i never look at the link that the person posts... so isn't that counter-intuitive?
and is it really that hard to contribute anything useful on a forum?
or is the concept something close to all the ebay 'deals' where one 'store' lists a item 5,000 times in the hope that 1, or 2 people will buy, or take the bait?
-
There are a ton of idiots out there, some that spam and others that will click on links in spam.
-
Reported this Thread as Spam!!!.
;P

So we have someone to one touch ban. Spammer taken care of and gone.
-
The solution (unfortunately) - approve new posters.
(I went on strike as spamster remover on another site for the spamsters >>> new members (and posts!) numbers.
IP banning doesn't work (unless you can prevent proxies too).
But there are web page tools that incorporate dummy email addresses for spamsters, and they can include the spammer's home or website addresses. I find that solution rather gratifying. And ironic.
Bring back the old POD! Rotten web payload filters! (I love the pong of a killer ping!)

The worth to the spammer is the search engine bots, the more their links are picked up by the bots, the higher up the search engines ranking they get.
They are not after the forum users hitting the links, because in most cases the users will see them for what they are. It's the bots they are after.
Now All new users first few posts have to go through approval, so most of the time they get culled before even seeing the light of day. (If you thought what you saw as a user was bad, you should see how much spam we mods see and delete before it evens gets to you)
-
that makes sense, i just got really aggravated dealing with all of it, and needed to vent a little... after constantly dealing with a poor spam filter at work, i can only imagine what you mods need to sift through to get to a single 'good' post..

I know E kills a lot, but I probably kill at least 2 or 3 spammers a day on average.
-
Actually Sonic has been beating me to it of late. I don't I've killed any for a week or so now.
We need our kill stats back.
Opti, where are you?
-
Thanks for the kill guys. I think you can tell how much I love spams.... (It was here I replied unsubtly to one and commented on its other two? All 3 were deleted as expected.)
I'll let you know when I get my next backdoor keys....
