    My thoughts on the RIAA

We went to see a movie today and had to sit through 25 minutes of ads one being a movie for stoppiracy.org or something like that. They had a guy who built sets and stuff saying the producers are the ones that make all the money and by pirating movies you hurt the little guys like him.

The thought came to me if the RIAA wants people to not pirate movies then make some that are worth buying/paying for. I think the last movie I actually bought was Star Wars and even then the quality of the latest wasn't anywhere near the first ones, I think they watered down the story to make it appeal to females and other non-geeks. Most of the other movies out there the only reason I go is for a date night kind of thing with my wife, there are very few that I would actually watch. Another example was the newer James Bond films, the old ones the gadgets and stuff were believable, the newer ones they do things like have a normal truck pop a wheelie to run through a orad block, something that can't happen and something that didn't have some sort of Bond gadget to make it happen.

Don't even get me started on the crap that sells as mainstream music. About 1/2 of my mp3's are ripped from cd's I own and the other half are stuff that is either not in production anymore or you just can't find in a store.

Sorry for the long rant but sitting there and listneing to their please don't copy our crappy movie really annoyed me.

I agree with you man. If you think about it, the US specifically has been hit with a ressetion for the last couple of years or so. The commerce here is not doing to good. Like any other enterprice the music industry is being hit. What do they do? blame online piracy. They are taking normal people living normal lifes and sue them. Not only are they billionares, but they are suing people that ARE NOT millionares but struggling day to day.

Its a large demon eating people. Not only are they not helping with anything, but making people even madder. This will end up in nothing but making things worst.

If audio CDs and DVD movies cost a couple of bucks with life time replacement due to broken discs, there will be no piracy. I gurantee it. I mean who would waste the time to download the movie or music when you can goto the store and buy them for two bucks? When you buy a DVD movie, you dont own the movie. you own the right to watch the movie. If the media breaks they should replace it cuz you still own the right to watch the movie. Piracy exist because record companys are charging too much for the musics and movies. Why should I pay $20 for 2 songs I like when I can go online and download them for the cost of electricity of the time it takes to download the songs? Same thing with movies. I rather save $20 and watch the movie in Stereo with Dolby Prologic II than waste $20 for Dolby Digital. I get to watch the same movie and laugh my way to the bank with my $20.

I've been overseas where pirated CDs and full feature DVDs are less than $5. Even at that prices I still debated on wheater I should get them or not. If they drop the price of CDs and DVD movies down below $5 then I would buy them. Think about it, $5 dollar DVD movies!! There's no need to download them. If theres no need to download them then there wont be any piracy.

Just to be clear, that ad was payed for by the MPAA, not the RIAA. But I do agree with you. For too long have the record companys been robing the music lover blind. Now that there is no need for this middle man, they plan to sue thier cusomtsers out of existance.

As for cheaper media, I think that most records could come down at least $5-10 without effecting artist profits. Although I think that $5 for a DVD might be a little low, maybe they should aim for $7 (about the cost of a movie ticket).

You're a little late on that. 5 years ago Circuit City tried that 5 dollar movie crap called DIVX and it didnt work. At least DIVX worked for 5 days after first view. What makes you think the Disney's 1 time view for 5 bucks' gonna work? I'd still say audio CD's for 2 dollars and DVD movies for 5 dollars. That'll stop piracy. Anything higher than that, people will still pirate CDs and DVDs.
