I just realized though that I havent put up a firewall scince I reformatted my harddrive and reinstalled xp. I do have it set not to accept remote connections though.
As for updates, I cant seem to update b/c I registered XP when I had my old motherboard, which broke, so I had to rebuild my computer and reload XP. Now I think that micrsoft.com thinks that this is a different computer and gives me a mesage about my product key is invalid, please contact your net admin...

Update: I just pulled up services and found a Remote Procedure Call (RPC) and so I disabled it. (along with some other remote procedures...)
