    Well,
I just bought a song from Napster and while I think it sounds good, I noticed that the license backup is not allowed. I guess this means that I won't be able to reblast my machine and keep my music. this is no good as far as I am concerned.

The software you download masks where it comes from. At least I haven't found it yet. I dont think its peer to peer. There may be more than one tho....

So does that mean that they keep your licences online? Or are they just blatantly lying to you? Unless they keep a record of what you've bought on a server, I can't see how they would know what you should have if your hard drive is wiped.

I signed up to hear about when it (Napster 2.0) was done, and so they sent me an email about getting 5 free songs. So I downloaded the software, and it never gave me five free songs, how nice of it! I then started searching the music, and it was slow as heck to move from genre to genre and then to load an artists albums and songs after that. I bought a song, and IMO the quality was ****. I haven't heard that terrorible of song quality in a LONG time. And the downloading of the song was slow too, much slower then P2P is So I am not going to waste any time on this POS software with its slowness and crappy sound. I still need to try out iTunes tho, I have heard its decent.

They better not be charging for P2P. Charge you for downloading a song from your neighbor? Who is half deaf and rips his **** at 56kps? Ummm no thanks.

But then I wouldn't consider it anyway.

You have to choose buy, and put in your credit card number, you credit card is not charged for the first 5 songs.

And the quality of the previews is 96kbps or less, that's why it sounds like crap.

I got the five free offer, but downloaded 5 songs yesterday and my bank called me to want to know if I had charged five songs from Napster. I am going to write to them and ask them why no freebies! BTW the songs I downloaded were all 128 Kbps bitrate. 44100 Hz. All of the info for ID3 was filled out. I like it, I don't like the licensing. No surprise there. I may have figured a way around it. It's just very time consuming.
