There are several different meaning/images behind Honda in the US.

    1. Ricer - people that put ridiculous paint jobs, crappy aftermarket parts, and lots of stupid looking stuff on their car because it looks "cool".
    2. Sporty - teens buy them because they're cheap and sporty.
    3. Reliability - old people buy them because they're extremely reliable.

Many people hate Honda because of type #1. I'm in between #2 and #3. I have 230,000 miles on my Civic and it's still running strong. My friend had 270,000 miles on his Civic before it died. That's around 10 or 11 years of driving. The ricers and ricer haters ruin it for everyone else. My car is pretty much all stock, but people still say it's ricer crap.

I like my honda just fine. I plan to get 300,000 miles out of it. I get 30mpg highway. So what if it's a 4 banger? I have no practical need for 600 HP.

    Ok now I get it.

Its hard to say which car is the euro-honda. It all depend which parts of europe we are talking about. And it depends on the model of the car.

Most kids here seems to modify citroen saxo and vauxhal corsa. There used to be alot of golf gti, ford xrs, renault 5 and pug 205 you normally hear them from miles away.

"I have 230,000 miles on my Civic and it's still running strong. My friend had 270,000 miles on his Civic before it died. That's around 10 or 11 years of driving. "

So we can say honda is a good car, just bad image.

Today I worked on a vehicle that has over 330,000 miles on it. Of all cars, it was an 89 Plymouth Voyager. Sucker still runs but runs like chit so I dont think the engine has been rebuilt. When I was in Hong Kong earlier this year, I saw a **** load of Evos on the street, from Evo II to Evo VII. Not that many WRX or STi. Cars there are a social status. There're no streets or open roads where you can drive anywhere remotely fast. Yet people there drive some of the world's fastest Japanese cars ever made: NSX, Evolutions, Accord SiR Euro, Skylines, Supras. I went to a used car lot and saw an 2001 Evo VII advertised to have 550bhp and next to it a Accord SiR with 350bhp turbo on the windshield. I was about to **** my pants. Anyway back to the subject, If cost is an issue, why not get a Neon SRT-4. Granted it's a Neon and a FWD but you gotta admit, it's pretty damn fast.

Speaking of the SRT-4. The 2004's are apparently putting about 248hp and 278lb-tq to the wheels.

Oh well I'm really liking the idea of taking a 350Z and as of right now throing on a ATI procharger, exhaust, and intake and should put me at about 370-380 to the wheels. Least I get the looks too. However thats going to end up costing me about 33-34k for both the car and mods. Sigh oh well I really love the Z's and a year from now should be even mroe aftermarket support.

You prolli find that you'd still get munched by an EVO. And in an EVO you would get people saying that you know what your buying(A true allround performance vehicle). The Z, is just a looker, it was built for the midlife crisis group. Now don't get me wrong its a fast car, but its not built with the (from the ground up) emphasis on performace like the EVO. The Z is a "nice" car.

I would never buy a Neon not my type but for a car under 20k that's pretty rediculous performance.

As for the Z it's a good looking car I still think the EVO and STI are fairly ugly and their interior could definitly be better. They have performance true.

However with the ATI Supercharger alone is putting down 350rwhp. Throw on some bolt ons and your pushing 400rwhp on fairly light car. Definitly can get some speed then. Hell there is a twin turbo right now that is getting the Z into 12 flat quarter miles.

So while the Z might come stock slow it's got great capabilities left untapped. To me it's worth it to pay an extra 2-3 grand over the EVO and get a nicer looking car that is supercharged.

The look of a car is more of a personal choice. I didnt think Z is all that pretty, it almost look like its trying to copy a porsche.

The evos and z are different cars so you cant just compare them. You probably find the evo will trash the z on tight twisty roads but the z is ony good on straight. The evos has been known for rallying.

In the end it all depend what you want from a car, comfort? straight line speed?, cornering speed or just the look of it. I personaly dont care how my car look or how comfortable on a track, its a competiton of speed and not some neon glow.

Evo is faster in straight line speed as far as twisty roads though they aren't to much different the Z being as light as it is is handles nicely and the ability to drift in the car means that it can be an amazing twisty car in the proper hands.

The evo is easier to drive though. Faster straight line speed but well the interior isn't my cup of tea and well I'm at a point in my life where I want a sports car not a sedan. Truthfully if I went sedan I would go with an Acura TL or better yet probably just a Maxima.

I'm not saying the STI and EVO aren't nice cars but just they aren't for me.
