    Why Impreza WRX?

I see A LOT of WRX owners on this forum. My question is what made you buy a WRX or STi instead of the Evo?

Dude.... Look at the price difference... And the availabilty...

I'd kill for an evo over a rex any day, but look at how easy it is to get a 2nd hand rex for 25, compared to getting an evo for that much....

On eBay, the WRX seems to be just a few grand less then the Evo8.. I think I would go Evo8, if I was into rice cars (I will never drive an Aisan car! American or European!!)

sigma, shut up with the rice car comments. there is nothing about the wrx that is rice, it will destroy any VW ever made in any kind of performance comparison, ok? lets not get started on VW, because you will lose any intelligent comparison. vw are simply fwd communter cars. They are the honda of europe, ok? Ok. oh and your 97 jetta is a POS. really. and if you think the R32 is going to matter to anyone, yer wrong. That thing is a pig, waaay too heavy.

    anyways.
the wrx has proven itself in america for over two years. It has established a place in the market as a car that has a excellent balance of performance and daily drivability. It is very reliable in untampered state and has tons of modification potential that results in REAL IMPROVEMENT, not rice improvement.

A brand new wrx will sell for ~24,500 new, MSRP and they can be easily bought for 23,000
used they can go under 19k.
that is significantly cheaper than the $30k+ an evo will cost you. The sti is 31,500. Both the Evo and the STi will be VERY expensive to insure. They are both extraordinary vehicles but not everyone wants such an vehicle for normal life. And most of us bought our wrxs before either the evo or the sti came out. A lot of wrx owners are just normal people who don't want to be cheated when they buy a car, not just performance enthusiasts. So they want a conisderable about of power and handling and reliability.
Needless to say the STi and the evo are not for everybody.
    -10K more expensive
    -more expensive to insure
    -limited availbilty
-not quite a daily driver for most

As to why Subaru over a Mitsubishi....
The boxer engine coupled to the subaru awd drivetrain is far superior for many reasons. Any Inline 4 is mechanically at a disadvantage in many many ways.
The mitsu evo is a kart, the wrx is a subtle drivers car. I would expect an unmodded wrx lasting a lot longer than an evo, getting better gas mileage while still remaining a seriosuly fast fun car.

oh and the prev gen impreza turbo was voted car of the decade in england by CAR magazine. the new one is improved.

Scoobies and Evos are more for adults who like performance. I have seen many of them on trackdays but never those stupid "rice" or those maxpower guys. I guess they dont have the balls to drive in a race track and feel humilated. They just loved racing old grannies on a sunday :P

Big differnece between evo's, wrx, and wrx stis.

Around here though I can pick up an EVO for about 29k. STI for 31.2k.

WRX is a lot cheaper at 22-24.

Truthfully as far as many people are concerned it's a toss up of personal preference between the STI and EVO the cars are so extremely similiar that you couldn't really god wrong with either. I'm looking into a new car next year and right now it's a toss up between a 350z, STI, and EVO. I've been leaning towards the Z just because I think they look 10 times better then the EVO and STI. Still the EVO and STI are faster and come with AWD which is useful so I really won't decide until I test drive all three.

However Z is what I'll probably go with for looks and I'll just drop a super or turbocharger into the Z to make up for the performance.

historically the dvo and the sti have been very similar vehicles, but in the US things have changed a bit.
the USDM evo remains as it always has a razorsharp handling superfast machine, but the UDSM sti has become something more akin to a rwd muscle car. This is what I've been told by my friend who works at my local subaru dealer. It is an very very fast car. The z isnt much faster than a normal WRX in the real world. on paper it has a slight advantage.

here is a turbo upgrade package you can trust.. maybe..

Sorry to go off-topic, but... Mike00, AWD may not be as useful as you think. I know some people with AWD cars and they say there's practically no difference...
