    The Job Hunt Continues

    Hey guys,
I really need some help in finding a job in the Atlanta area, Nashville TN, or Knoxville TN area. I am in the IT field and the Atlanta are has pretty much dried up in the IT arena. So far I have sent out my resume to 50-60 different companies with no response on Monster.com. Might anyone know of any openings in these areas? or other places to search besides Monster.com?

Here's a link to my resume.

Any pointers that you guys could offer would be much appreciated. Also, I have tried looking into a completely different field but I am not sure where I could go in order to make a living. Here are some of my interests: music, guitars, custom built guitar amps, computers, webpage design, old cars, car stereo systems, mp3cars (of course).

    Thanks,
    Steve Snyder

I have honestly never had a job that I responded to from an ad. They've all been through friends and friends of friends. I can't remember ever getting a response from sending out resumes or talking to headhunters.

Network. Become a member of your local country club and shmooze. That's the only way to get a tech job these days.

As someone who was recently unemployed I'll tell you the only way you are going to get a job is via a contact. I was laid off on 08/22 and didn't find employment until 10/20. The only reason I got my current job is because I had a personal contact higher up. You can check out the company I work for there a bunch of jobs open, it doesn't look like any are a perfect match but who knows.

    Hey Ryan,
Thanks for the tips. I know what you mean about networking, I've sent out my resume to so many freakin places on Monster its not even funny. I really think the whole IT market in Atlanta is flooded. I feel sorry for the people that are going to college with the idea that as soon as they are done they are going to be making the big bucks. I had a professor that was practically preaching CISCO and there are very few openings in that arena. I knew a few friends that still dont have a job cause all they know is CISCO.

Anyway, thanks again, I'll keep you posted on the search.

    Thanks,
    Steve

Try americas job bank, I get a lot of responses from employers using there method. It is free to post a resume and job search. They send you an email once a week with listings that match what you are looking for. Some are temp agencies but a lot I get are also direct hire. I assume if you getting desperate it doesnt really matter, but this is definitely worth looking at anyway.
    GOOD LUCK

Yeah its starting to get a little desperate as far as the job search continues. Here's question of personal and opinional information. With my qualifications, would should I look for as an ideal salary? Just so I can I know that I am not getting screwed over by someone. I know that IT Salaries are not what they used to be.

    Thanks everyone.

consider yourself lucky if you get a response by emailing in a resume. I had to do some interviews and in 3 days of a job posting being just on monster I got around 250 emails.

The key is to follow up. Take some time to write a PERSONALIZED cover letter along with your resume. Describe how you can help the company breifly in there and what you can do. Then in like a day or so follow up if you can get a phone number or even email.

The best way to get a job is just go into the place and begin to talk to people. There's a reason why a tech people see a lot of jobs being posted but get no respnonses.. cause they are lazy. Its not like 5 years ago.. you have to make yourself stand out
