I'll never get tired of seeing it when somebody asks a question with a title, that when used as a search term, yields an answer to their question at the top of the list.

This man speaks the truth. The Search function on this board works quite well. I can understand the frustration one might experience when they search for a term and it returns 100 results...but by viewing those results, you'll find your answer, plus many other things helpful for your project. Anyone too lazy to hunt for the answers they need can be expected to cut corners and overall have a problemmatic install. Just my opinion.Originally Posted by robiewp

The search smiley was put in because it is more freindly than "use the search button you friggin moron"

Here's how I see it:
How did you find this board in the first place? Did you "search" for it?! Well wonder of wonders! What makes you think your search was over just because you found a messageboard dedicated to your interest? Granted, that tree full of fruit looks good, but you still have to climb the tree to get what you want.
This site is a treasuretrove of information. It's almost certain you will find what you are looking for here. BUT. Just because Google pointed you here doesn't mean your search is over. Now that you found the particular tree in the orchard that you want to pick from, now you have to find the apple.
It's a waste of everyone's time if you just barge in and demand answers to your questions when they have already been gracious enough to share their knowledge and experience on that particular subject many times over. That's why this is a messageboard, and not MP3CarTemporaryChatWindow.com. Everything said and done here is recorded for others to see (and search). You got a question? Great! If it's something that provides a challenge and stands to benefit the future visitors of the site, then by all means, ask away! We're happy to help when possible. However, just like a doctor or computer repair tech, we get tired of answering the same questions over and over and over, when it isn't necessary. Don't keep asking the librarian if she has any books for you to read when they are all staring you dead in the face.

i couldnt agree with the aforementioned replys more!!!
i mean, when i first started into this hobby... i must have read threads for several months before i even registered and started posting.
its all about the time you want to invest into this hobby. put in the research time, and it will become easier to find what you are looking for... only after the research should you start posting questions.

All seriousness aside, I whole heartedly agree. When I first started doing this I was up for hours at a time just reading and finding out all of my options and possibilities. Only then did I start asking questions by using descriptive subjects. <---- This ****es me of more than anything at this point but I can live with it.
buying a house by yourself takes all the fun out of having hobbies... they become shelf art... or room decorations. circuit boards are very modern art.Originally Posted by Defiler
what really sucks is that i have all the pieces to put it all together. just not the time to do it, or the money to make the changes to the interior of my car, or the "high priority" motivation to get it done. some day...

I try to reply to a post with something useful, and mention the fact that the search does exist, and suggest they use it. I think that is better than just seeing a post with the search icon on it's own, and no extra help/comments.
