I thought about that, but would you be willing to run out there every single time a cat jumps on your car or a leaf falls from the roof? Having to park my cars outside, I'm never going to be safe from thievery, but I can at least keep a record of what happens out there.

Why NOT go with the X10 motion activate camera and VCR commander?
Yes, I don't really like X10 (because of their stupid pop-up, down, under ... ) stuff and using VCR but hey it work the way you want right?
Since X10 VCR send an IR Record command to your VCR, you can use that IR signal to your computer and record whatever you want. I think the X10 VCR Commander only has 3 buttons/4functions Power ON-OFF, Record, Stop.

actually ATI capture software has something like this already in it, you can exclude the area around your car, and when someone goes near the car it will start recording, when no activity is recorded it goes back to stand-by mode

So does the stuff that comes with Logitech cameras. It monitors the image it gets for changes, and when there's a more than 5% change in the picture or something, it starts to stream to disk.

Car changed for TVR Griffith 500, so computer de-installed. Using a Dension 100ix w/60Gb HD unit in the interim.

Here's the deal. I have a 110VAC line coming from a motion detector outside. When motion is detected, the line goes hot. Inside the house, it simply needs to close a two ports on LPT1 with no voltage. A relay would be the answer. I have a pile of these:

Any way I could utilize them, or should I just wait and grab an AC relay in the morning?
