    Alarms

Alright, having a computer in your car is something that is going to yield an alarm at some point. If you have equipment like that in your car, you're going to attract the attention of thieves.

However, there's a lot of alarms to choose from. I'm buying one pretty soon, but I'm not sure which. I want a shock sensor, remote entry, and an aux output. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Also, has anyone heard of a good solution to the manual transmission/remote start issue?

Umm...well, there really isnt a *good* solution, because to use it you will need to leave your car in neutral with the e brake on to hold it. It is easy to bypass the clutch pedal switch but the one time you attempt to start it in gear it could get ugly probaby wouldnt be too bad to come up with a switch to make sure its in neutral, but you still cant get past the e brake thing. I dont know about you but I dont trust just the e brake

-for the alarm Id recommend something from DEI product line; i have Clifford with remote start (installed in manual) and im more than happy with it,

-remote start issue, solution is simple- NEVER leave your car on the gear ;p
(and if you're not sure if its on the gear, dont remote start it...)

Whats the process of installing an alarm with remote start. Is it something thats fairly easy to do? If it is that would be great because it would save me a lot of money on installation.

bjm, its not very difficult. you'll need to find a lot of different wires in your car. If I can recall, you need to find these:

    +12V
    Ground
    Accessory
    Ignition 1
    Ignition 2
    Parking Lights
    Door Locks

And then you'll need to wire up these:

    Siren
    Shock Sensor

    I'm sure there's more, but I haven't installed any alarms, so I don't know.

It's not hard to find these wires, most alarm companies have most popular vehicles wire colors on their websites. Here's a good one http://www.bulldogsecurity.com/bdnew/diagramspage.htm

I installed a cheap remote starter/alarm on my old manual Probe, just used a relay to bypass the clutch.

yeah, its really easy. Basically, your car alarm "hotwires" the car.

Obviously none of you live in any "mountainous" or hilly areas!

I leave my car in gear all the time to save wear on my ebrake (its pretty hilly around here)

Anyway I have a Blackwidow with a pager....probably the smartest addin you can get for an alarm. That way you actually know if your alarm is going off (if you're within 2k) and if you are close enough you can catch theves (if your quick) in the process.

Anyway best alarm..is a deterant. Hide your computer...hide your screen...make it look factory and no one will touch it.
