    Backup My PS2 Games

    Hi Folks,

I got myself a dvd burner for my birthday and have started making backup copies of my movie collection. I am now considering buying some software to make backup copies of my wife's Playstation II games. Can anyone recommend a legally downloadable free or otherwise program that will do this with a minimal amount of labor? I'd rather make copies that don't need a "mod" chip in the PS2 to work.

    Thanks in advance.
    Peter

You can't. The PlayStation 2 will need either the MOD chip installed in order to play copied games, or the Flip Top mod. Flip top mods require you to replace the whole top of the PS2 and boot your PS2 with a bootdisk and then swap the bootdisk for the copied game.
As for as legality goes, well, it's supoused to be illigal even if they are your own copies of games you already own.
I have played on both types of Moded PS2's and I like the MOD chip much better, as you have to do the disk swap, which can get really fast.
As for backing up the games, easy task. Put the game inside your computer, the drive that will read the game, of course. Using just about any program out there, make an image file from the DVD-ROM game to your hard drive, such as *.ISO or many of the other popular formats. Once read and copied, it's as easy as placing in a blank DVD-R to your computers DVD burner and burn that saved burned image onto it from your hard drive. The reason I put the dash format (DVD-R) is that that is what I have used and it works just fine, I've read that the + (DVD+R) doesn't work, I really don't know.
    OMG!!!!! It's really that easy.

Other methods include loading them to hard disc, and throwing that in the PS2. Also requires some minor modification.

I'm very happy with my mod-chip, once done - no hassle

Just noticed on Tech TV that there is no modding needed if you instal a standard IDE hard drive into your PS2 (must have the network card). You basically make an image on the HD of all your games. Just need a cd called HDloader to start the game. no swapping no modding

Not sure why, they said it was a must, even though you do not use any network features to do the trick. check it out....

I just read on a forum that the network adapter supplies the power connection for the HD.

Also supplies the data connection to the hard drive I think, I didn't see a standard ATA plug in there last time I opened it up
