    Help with PC?

Problem with my home PC: Everytime I right-click on a desktop item (say, to delete it) the hour glass comes up for 30 seconds, no drop-down menu comes up. After those 30 seconds, my desktop "resets". as in it dissappears and comes back. Anybody run into this problem?
I'm running XP on a 2.0 Gig pc. (nothing special)

Additional problem: I'm unable to format cd's or dvd's anymore (for drag & drop)
I used DLA, won't format them. I used RecordNow, won't format them ("cd not ready")
However, I can burn cd's (mp3's) and dvd's (home movies) just fine.

I know one of you great people can help here Thanks

Have you tried the usual methods....? I.e., virus checks, system restore etc?
I just had this problem tonight for some strange reason after installing a program. Disappeared after I rebooted though. Although i take it rebooting won't help in your case

I tried scan disk, defrag, disk cleanup. I'll check for unused programs and delete them. Then a system restore, I quess. Thanks for a "real" answer.

sounds like a virus. If I were you, if you can't detect the virus, back up everything you need to keep (put it on cds or a slaved drive) and wipe your drive. Reinstall XP and see how that goes. Don't forget about your drivers (motherboard sond, video etc.)

I actually ended up doing a system recover, which kept all my old files/programs. Worked great, fixed the problems and the system works much faster now.
    Thanks for your help.
