For those who are thinking of getting their car "Overhauled"...

    Hello all,

I just found out about this 'situation' from other boards that I read. There is a television show on TLC called "Overhaulin". This program pretends to 'steal' a persons car (with help of people who know the owner). While the show makes the owner believe his car was really stolen, the people on this show actually take a car that is in need of restoration and do a completely make-over on the car, adding all new and 'tricked-out' components. This usually includes show car paint job with any and all body work repaired. Sometimes custom body work as well. They upgrade the parts on the car like brakes, suspension, interior, etc. The people who do the work, do top quality work and use all brand name components.

However, I just found out what happened to one of the cars that was "Overhauled". Just to make things clear, this is in no way meant to condemn the persons or products on the show. But to show how the producers of this show treated the owner after a 'problem' with the engine that happened on the show.

WARNING, this is a lot of reading and a lot of links to different sites. There is a link to actual program that shows the episode.

    Please pass this on.

Damn... maybe I should be happy in what I have rather than wishing on stuff like that.

Know any good body guys in western Ohio? I need some metal work done.

I heard about the 442, wonder if any of the other people that have been on overhaulin' have had problems. Has anyone heard of any other overhaulin' people complaining of problems? I have to say though the people that own the 442 make it sound like the car was in perfect condition before it was overhauled, sell the Foose wheels and get a new motor and a cheap set of American racing wheels. For what those wheels probably cost they could get a brand new Crate motor for the damned thing, it's not like it was the original motor anyway.

I think it's more a matter of the principle. Of course, they could sell something and get the motor done. I think it's the priciple of the fact though. Having to go thru those headaches because they were hot-dogging your car.

I think the most of us live by the rule... if you're driving someone elses car, you're not going to rag on it.

Also, I have to disagree with you a bit about claiming the car was perfect. They said, the car wasn't perfect, but it had a running motor before it was 'cooked' on the show.

the body needed work but it ran all the way there.

I remember watching where they poured water on it. I did that on the brakes of my mom's car once... the next day I had to buy new rotors for her. >_< They were smoking before I poured the water on... lets just say mini vans don't stop from 85mph+ very quickly.

I saw that episode they screwed that motor up big time, you DO NOT EVER EVER put cool water on an overheated block.... that's just freaking retarded....

    do this
take a glass, fill it with water, put it in the microwave for 10 min get it nice and hot....

pull it out and dump the water out, fill a sink with cold water, drop the glass in there...

you'll now have a nice collection of glass fragments

Just like every other frigging reality show out there, the people working the garage are obviously not professionals. How could a person who knows anything about engines even THINK about dousing a hot block with cold water?! What a fool.
I feel so bad for those folks. She told them multiple times not to take it on the freeway, and what do they do? Right. Do donuts in a parking lot and take it on the freeway. Idiots. Man, I would SO be all over the production company's rear bumper about this, if it were my ride they'd screwed up. OOOOOhhh great! It has nitrous now, too! Big whoop. Not going to be of much use if the engine can't get out of its own way anymore. Complete morons....

I'll agree that Overhaulin' should definitely fix the car and I'd be pretty ****ed if had happened to my car however, I think the whole thing has been blown out of proportion. Overhaulin' obviously is not going to take care of the problem. Maybe it's time to quit *****in' and get the thing fixed themselves. I saw the episode and they did beat the engine badly, but with all the rest of the work that went into it, I'd cut my losses and replace the motor. Body and paint work were amazing, new suspension, brakes, exhaust, interior, and as I recall a new stereo system..... I dunno, seems like they still made out pretty well even with the wasted motor. Maybe I wasn't as clear as I could have been in my last post.

Well sure, the thing LOOKS and sounds great, but is any of that any good when it's the dude's primary transport, and now it really can't go anywhere? With all the upgrades in mind, though, I'd have to pretty much agree with the "cut and run" solution in the end.
