Yeah I never did get a chance to "play" with his car really, although he did offer. But with my Thunderbird I can handle road conditions very well!
well next time I'm mid corner in a massive tail out drift, I'll remember to take my foot of the acceleratoror not.

I did not mean it like that, it is illegal in TN as well to coast down a hill and what not in neutral. I was referring strictly to the situation of loosing(sp?) control; But it is good that we cleared that upOriginally Posted by 0l33l
. I should mention that I have slid on ice in a rear wheel drive manual and a front wheel drive automatic and both times I was able to re-gain control before leaving the lane and/or pavement. Both times it happened to be on an interstate (two different ones) and I stayed in my own lane, i.e. i did not use both lanes traveling in the same direction.
Not to mention it is not very comforting to watch people slide past you with looks of terror eched on their faces.

Yes the only way to know how to deal with an emergency situation is to always practice it, safely of course.
I was crossing tower bridge last nite ( the famous bridge in london that go up and down) Damn heavy traffic, when I got closer I saw 5 cars piled up. How was it possible to do that when the speed limit there is only 20MPH
Alot of poeple pass their test, year and years of driving think they can handle every situation. Drive like an idiot tailgating the guy in front at 80+ MPH on a motorway thinking they can brake on time.
I can bet alot of poeple doesnt even know how to do emergency brake at 30MPH, what chance have they got at 80+ MPH. In the road I must have only done emergency brake once in 14 years, probably same for most drivers which is hardly enough to know anything about braking hard.
Going to a race track make you appreciate what driving is all about. Its funny to see how the "mr know it all" guys get the taste of reality.
Even a pro driver may not be able to get out of the situation but the key is to not get into that situation at the first place![]()
yeah thats what my new motto is. don't get into the situation in the first place. however it was kinda hard not to as we ran smack into a wall of water >.<

Thanks. Not only I'm alive, I got out of that wreck without a single scratch, although I broke a double windshield with my head. I didn't have anything broken. I think God looked down on me that day.Originally Posted by Grayscale

I agree, I dont feel 'safe' behind the wheel of a car without my seatbelt on. I nearly wrote my car off on a country road. It was about 3am, pitch black at night and it was drizzling with rain. Both sides of the road had a 4ft high embankment (like a brick wall!!)Just got onto a gravel surfaced part of the road when a deer jumped out in front of my car at about 8ft away. I swerved and clipped the deer on my passenger side rear door (still have a tiny dent to this day). The road was about 10ft wide. Upon swerving, I sent the rear of the car into a fishtail. I took my foot off the accelerator, slowly pumped the brake pedal, and still I kept fishtailing, 25meters down the road. Eventually, on a left fishtale, I yanked the wheel to the right sharply and wrenched on the handbrake the spin the rear end 180^, then floored the accelerator. It worked, I wasnt going to fast anyways (about 35mph). I pulled a 180 and slid a little more backwards before the tyres got grip. On stopping, i just rubbed the embankment with the passenger rear of my bumper. No visible damage at all. I pulled down the road a little bit to see if the deer was dead, only to find it jumping over the opposite embankment. Me and my mate are alive, and so was the deer. I was lucky I didnt panic.
