Wow,
First PC was an IBM 286 PS/2 12mhz, 3.5 floppy drive sweet, 1200baud modem, 20 meg HD, huge, and one meg of Ram. Came with IBM-Dos 4something. Had to use disk compress util just to install win 3.1. I had that thing till 96, then upgraded to a PII400 with a cdrom. My folks still have that machine at home in florida. Used to play microprose f15 and hemdal on it.
there was one BBS in South Dakota that wasn't long distance, messed around with that alittle. Dos version of AOL sucked. Would any of you belived that you'd have a pc in your car that would have GPS, touchscreen, and play music, back then? Pc's have come a long dam way.
I did have a commodor and a tandy, but Ireally didn't learn much with them, still kinda young. Does anyone remember that magazine that was made for the commodor, and it had pages of code you could enter by hand, and have games and stuff?

I'm pretty sure I have a copy of LORDII laying around some where. That was pretty cool, but it came too late in the bbs days.
Was that BYTE magazine? I used to get it, too. I had forgotten all about it.Originally Posted by dingofarmer

Anyone remember "Leech Zmodem" ? It would send a NACK signal after it received the last byte of your download - the result was that you weren't charged for your downloads. Of course, this dates back to the days of Upload/Download ratios and ANSI Graphics.
WWiV - rocked. I discovered hack in Murder Motel that allowed me to put an infinite amount of time in the time bank. It went like this:
When I only had like 12 minutes left on the board, I would go into Murder Motel (one of the games) and go into the Time Bank. I would go to make a time deposit (they had a 10 minute minimum), and on the "confirmation screen" I would wait for 3 minutes until my time expired on the board. The numbers then went NEGATIVE. The BBS code (WWiV 4, I think) was looking at Absolute values, so as my time went negative, I was actually GAINING time on the board. I'd hang out for a few hours, then deposit my earnings (like 180 minutes or whatever) and then make a legitimate deposit in the Time Bank.
I think that was my first ever hack. I've been hooked ever since - albeit now with cars and computers.
God, those were the days... heh.
