I've heard seth able many a time.
I remember loving to use BBS systems way back in the day.
Playing games, downloading 2 meg files over a day or so
Anyone remember Trade Wars, LORD ?

Some of my best friends I've known from BBS's from back when I was in high school. We won't go into how long ago that was....
I was a bbs junky. I was the co-sysop of a site dealing with elite "zines" when they were actually just old articles out of the "Anarchist's Cookbook." Do you remember what emulation program you used? I was all about Terminate. The funny thing is, back in those days the maximum char length of a DOS name was 8. So it was TERMINAT.EXE... hahaha, I miss those days. Also, those huge BBS lists and a busy signal that never seemed to end on popular sites.
the good old times.
I was the owner of the first windows (3.11 for WG) based BBS in broward county, it was some canadian based company that made the software, I still have it somewhere but forgot the name of it.
I had a digiboard with 4 28.8 modems on 4 phone lines coming in and a 7CD changer on SCSI.
it was a donation based system and worked very well, but when that new thing called the internet came, the BBS started to die out.
I asked a wealthy friend to invest some 50K on some T1 lines (they cost close to 10K a month at that time) and start to provide internet access, but he said he wouldn't want to risk so much money on something that nobody needs.
the rest is history.

Hell yeah. I ran an bbs called Brain Wash. Had L.O.R.D., and that game where you deal drugs. I had a few others that I don't remember. Was in a few ANSI art groups (FLUiD/2, ...can't remember the other two). I remember when the internet came about...everyone hated it. I was 31337 back in the day. I ran VBBS, even knew how to code for it... I remember chatting on this place called Austin Clubhouse. It could have like a hundred users at a time! On one bbs!! I remember if a bbs had the ability to chat the owner had to have invested some serious money into it. I still remember when someone donated a 28.8 to me and I was like "YES!". I also wrote for a few zines (nothing really of relevance)...Swank, I think I even had an article in S.O.B. My old handles were Sander Blade and Neuronaut. I still wonder where some of the people from my area are.
It's funny, I talk to the people at my school and I mention a BBS and they're like "What's a bbs?". ...Ah the fun of being 24 and still being in school....that's what you get for switching from Photojournalism to C.S..
I'm thinking about getting a TradeWars Game Server set up.
Who would play ?

I'd probably play.
But if you got L.O.R.D. going...aw hell
All that green text...mmmm
ha, my first computer (a 20mhz wang) came with a 2400 bps modem. I was the first amoung my friends to have more then 300! Man I was a trade wars junky I actually found a version of it a couple of years ago for my palm, was not quite the same though.
I remember downloading VBBS and setting up a bbs on my comuter (did not have a dedicatated phone line so it never really came to be) but I remeber playing tradewars on my own computer for practice and then running whatever update program there was that cycled it to the next day and continueing on for practice!
The larest BBS I remeber in my local area was called the Link and I think it had 5 or 6 lines.
THanks for the memories I had not thought about this in a while.
