Of course, judging from my experience, neither can the insurance companies![]()
Hey guys! As some of you know, my car was hit while it was parked at my school's parkinglot. This was late last year. Over winter break (the term for christmas break over here...) and he said that I would get it by the end of this week. So, today I go talk to him to kind of remind me, and he says that I'll get the money on February 1. I was nice and decided to let him pay in cash so that his insurance doesn't go up, and I was nice in not charing him for a rental car (which I would get if I went with the insurance route). Anyway, this last change has really ticked me and my mom off. Me and the person who hit me are minors, so I need to have his parents sign the "I owe you" contract. My mom said that I will also need the notary to check who signs the contract. But now I am having trouble finding a contract that fits me (just needs to be a basic I owe you by this date or else...).
Thanks for reading the long post,
David Burban

The insurance company would probably total my carOriginally Posted by frodobaggins
That panel is huge, and it costs a lot if new. My mechanic's plan was just to fix the old one.
Anyway, I need this contract so that I can show it to him to get him to sign it, and if he can't, he has to give me his insurance.
He's not very smart IMO, he called in one of the teachers to find me right after he hit my car. So I've got some trustworthy witnesses.
im sure a lawyer could draw one up for your needs. It may cost you. Give someone a call and ask if they can give you information that best suites you. Of course they will not give info that will help you get paid and not them. Hopefully you will get lucky and find a nice one. Never hurts to ask...

Always notify your insurance company and get their details and pass them on to your insurance. Your insurance company will then send you teo get a quote but you can still settle privately and get the damage fixed yourself and pass on the bill. then if they don't pay you already have an admission of whos fault it was and you should be able to sort it out pretty easily through either insurance or lawyers. I alwasy take the legal protection and i can us this for free even if i don't make a claim - just like i am doing with my car now. I skidded due to someone elses negligence (as have many other people on the same patch of road) and my legal cover will support my action against the company despite me fixing the damage myself.
That's why I asked here. I didn't think its that hard of a contract to do.Originally Posted by jjh221
Yeh, I should've gotten his insurance. I'll call him today and say that the new date is unacceptable and that I need the money by this Friday, if not then I'd have to go through his insurance because well, my mom is getting pretty ****ed off and he's taken forever.Originally Posted by Scouse Monkey
Also report it ot the police. And if you know anyone who is a copper ask them to go round and have a word - that will put the frighteners on them. (or a hire a police stripper but tell em not to strip until they get back yours later - but make sure its a girl!)
Police don't really give a **** here unless its either on public roads (this happened in a private school's parking lot) or there is bodily harm (I wasn't present in the car). In other words, the police would be useless. Anyway, I'm calling him today.Originally Posted by Scouse Monkey
Very true on both counts. If all else fails your insurance company should write to him and ask for his details. Let them deal with it. Then, if they decide to write your car off get them to let you buy it back and get it fixed yourself.Originally Posted by 0l33l
