You just have to uncheck “Take over my entire computer” and “Annihilate all other file associations automatically when I’m not looking” when installing it and it’s fine.

Good pointers! Also remember that you will constantly have a proccess running called qttask so you get to go into msconfig and select: Disable completely useless craptime process from startup.

I don't see what the problem with quicktime is.
Just disable all its stupid ****, and after that it's well behaved.

I think there is only one thing I like about Quicktime more than embedded WMP so it doens't make it too worth it for me. Already have WMP on my computer, don't need something else that isn't better. Everytime I disable quicktimes process quicktime releases an upgrade and it comes back.
But that is all IMHO

Dudes...
There are hacked quicktime codec's out there... You don't need to install the full application. Search for "Quicktime alternative" or something similar.

I know Real Alternative works quite well as a replacement for RealPlayer (damn I hate that ****!), but wasn't aware they did the same for QT as well.

Yes they have one for both realplayer and quicktime. I use both, they came with the codec pack I installed. I know some of you think codec packs are evil

(cough: frodo) but there easier for us lazy people that don't have the energy to install all the codec seperatly, eventhough they have stuff I don't need.
