Toilet roll and CD diamter!

Have you noticed that your average roll of toilet paper and a CD have approximately the same diameter to a couple of mm????

Maybe it is because the guy who sat at his PC all day designing the CD had a roll of toilet paper on his desk for when no-one was around and thought it looked about right as it sat nicely on top of his PC and was perfect for a 5 1/4" drive bay!

no its either because he was on the throne or he was late for his presentation, while in the bathroom he needed something round to trace. Like oh ****!

actually, the diameter of a CD is exactly the diagonal length of a cassette tape. They arbitrarily picked that size for marketing reasons; consumers could see value in a disc which was better quality than a tape yet the same or smaller size.

I suppose it makes sense using that as it does make it appear smaller. I like prefer jjh221's idea though. It explaines the area of no data int he middle of the disc as it is just abit smaller than the inner tube of the loo roll!
