Things to do in CA

hey everyone,
Im stayingin in san francisco for the next week and am wondering if there is anything in paticular i should check out while im here. Next week im going to be renting a car to drive down to LA for a few days and then over to Vegas for a few days, Any sights i should see on my trip?

I have some things in mind, body world 2 exhibit and a few shows just curious to things that i may not have heard of/ know about

SF - The Warf, drive across the Golden Gate to the park on the other side (snap a few photos with the bridge and the city skyline), ride the trolley's if they aren't too packed...
On the drive down to LA, take HWY1 for as much of the trip as possible. Take your time. Rent a sports car and the switchbacks will be heaven!

I have only been to SF once, it was the last stop on one of my x-country drives. The hills on the other side of the golden gate from the city (the name escapes me now, I am sure someone here knows) are awsome. The frist overlook gives an incredible view of the bridge, you are up pretty high and looking right at one of the bridges towers. Then it goes up to a fort that gaurded the bay during WW2, and from there you can keep driveing, it becomes one lane and hugs the mountain side looking over the ocean, nice ride.

Take the ocean highway south from SF to LA (route 1 i think) I took 101 down from the north through the red woods and that was real cool if you have the time check it out. (the drive on 1 and 101 will take alot longer then interstate 5 though.)

In San Francisco:
The Science museum in Golden Gate Park. LAst time I was there, they had a Gary Larson (The Far Side) exhibit, including original sketches. Dunno if it's still there or not.
Eat some clam chowder in a sourdough bread bowl on Fisherman's Wharf. Oh, and while you're there watch the free juggling show. Those guys are a riot!
Take the $10/person bay tour from the boats docked next to Fishermans Wharf. They take you around the back side of Alcatraz and under the Golden Gate Bridge.

Los Angeles:
I hate L.A., so I can't give any tips.

In Las Vegas:
Hoover Dam.
The Neon Museum.
Rent an exotic car and just cruise up & down the strip. Hell, use that to drive to Hoover Dam!

Im going to the warf today, should be fun,
Im Think im going to go to alcatraze after I come back from my vegas/la trip
If HWY1 is the highway that is going up and down the coast, Thats def the one that i want to take, Ive heard its fun to drive on that as well as the sceanerory is spectacular
Any places on the way to LA/Vegas i should stop at?

You're not going to Alcatraz unless you've already bought tickets.
When I lived in Sacramento, the company that did the Alcatraz tours (Blue & Gold line, I believe) told us that tickets for the Alcatraz tour have a 72hr waiting list.

right along your route (Hwy 1) is Monterey and 17-mile Drive. That's a gorgeous drive that kills a couple hours. Lotsa photo ops.

Depending on the route you take to LA, you can stop at Hearst Castle & San Simeon, assuming you like castles.

go to Fry's electronics

drive Mulholland Drive
drive through East LA and South Central really fast?
stalk a movie star

wear a tshirt that says "I am a tourist. I do not live here. Thank God."

I can do that in Dallas. I've been told there are Fry's now in Atlanta, as well.

That's Marin. Very nice area. Sausilito is a nice little city to hang in for a while if you are north of the bridge.
While you are in the city, go to Biscuit's and Blues. Great food and live blues shows every night. Visit the Haight/Ashbury district and play "how many times will I be offered weed today?". Golden Gate park and the Embarcadero are nice on a bike. Union Square has some nice, high end shopping. Broadway has lots of strip clubs. The Italian part of town (called North Beach) has some great coffee shops and food. I stay away from Chinatown cause its too crowded and every shop has the same crap for the same price. North Beach kind of borders Chinatown so you will get a little of it without having to venture in too far. Go see Lombard at the twisty part. Visit the Legion of Honor and see what exhibits are going on.
Thats all I can think of right now. But definately go to Biscuits and Blues.
