They are not broken by the professionals they are broken by the cowboys who call themselves professionals. Unfortunately 99% are cowboys.

Ill say everytime you take your car to a garage you loose some screws, nuts and have a broken plastics and a scratch. They have the habits of doing it, they cant help it. Nothing wrong in breaking a clips or loosing screws it does happen but these guys just cant be bothered.

Oh I musnt forget the classic wrong way round fitments and some electrics that no longer works.

If you break something in a car dont feel bad about it. Atleast you didnt pay someone to break it for you

There was no "bashing" intended with my previous post. I didn't know you've been building carpc's for that long. I was speaking from my own experience of building my carpc, which was fairly easy thanks to people on this site and the availability of complete parts for use in carpc's. As you said you didn't have that luxury so that you had to build it by trial and error. Which probably comes down to the following 'law'

Harrisberger's Fourth Law of the Lab: Experience is directly proportional to the amount of equipment ruined.

Or maybe at least partly. Like i said earlier, no bash intended.

Enforcers rule no. 3b : Before hacking car apart, visit junkyard and get a spare piece of what you want to hack. Then you know the consequences, and if all goes well you can use the junyard/hacked one in place of the proper one and keep the original should you want to go back to stock.

Which is the reason why at the moment I get grief from the other half about the BMW dashboard (picked up for £12 on Ebay) sitting on the floor in the living room in front of the TV.

The biggest rip off IMO are the Opus PSU. I can't believe I paid $200 for one. Yes, it was worth it but it is still a rip off!

BTW, IntellaWorks why do you always have a dot and then a line at the top of all your posts?
AMD XP 2600+/512MB RAM/120GB hard drive

Brady, I totally agree with you... I talked myself out of that thing and just got a Carnetix (still waiting for it to come in the mail, I really hope it solves my power issues) But I just couldnt see the sense in spending SO much on it. When I already have a perfectly good DC-DC Morex.

I think I put a "." in my subjects because it's distinctive and I'm too lazy to type a title.. sorry if I **** anyone off with it. I just "that guy"

    This hobby is the best!

The most fun is surfing the web for hours trying to find that perfect deal. Playing with new features that Frodo comes out with. Knowing that my system does twice as much as the DVD/MP3 players that cost 2000+ dollars. I also enjoy the blank stares at Radio Shack when they ask why do I want to extend power 15 feet from my computer.

Ripping the car apart allows my son and I to bond, it is a hobby we both enjoy. We laugh when we break something and the statement is "It's ok no one can actually see that its broken"

One day it was -20 degrees here and my son and I ripped the back of the car apart to put in some new Infinity speakers, we took turns warming up in the house for a couple of mins, then ran back to the car.

    Fun!

Man, that is the greatest things. Not only do you have someone to share this stuff with but it's someone that you love and someone that will be following your footsteps.

Reading this post, really makes my original post worth the effort. Your right too, it's all for fun. I can totally understand the -20 because I wired my amp, speakers and PC power on a -20 day with friends... DAMN was it cold but thank god we had beer...

Also, I LOVE it when I'm looking for a part or have to bring in something so I can get the right screw size and the employees (especially radio shack) ask why I need this or that, I love it when they try to "know it all" I had to find a small screw size the other day, because I was installing my carnetix and the radio shack guy told me my computer wouldnt work because the power suppy I had in my hand wasn't ATX. Of course I had to be polite and I smiled and said I think I can get it to work.
