I was going to comment that Merc is not all that reliable... but then I remembered that apparently Europeans get better cars than Americans Merc has been getting bad rep lately on this side of the pond, especially the E-class. And from what I know, VW's in US have atrocious reliability record for some of the models, yet those same cars do just fine in Europe. At least I know you pay more for gas

Pay off your credit cards. Get more cards and keep there balance at zero. Use them, just pay them off in full. Then get a cell phone in your name. Make sure it's paid off in full every month. Buy a house and pay your mortgage every month. Thank you might khave the credit to buy your car.

Can you co-sign with someone? Thats what I had to do with ym father. It's in both of our names, but it's effectivly mine because I pay for it 100%.

Yeah good advice ont he cards and phone and ****.

As for co-signing - would you co-sign with someone who earns $24K and is buying a $36K car? I wouldn't!

If Europe really are getting better cars than America, then Mercedes really are in trouble!

In the results of one of the biggest Owner Surveys in the UK, mercedes did very poorly, even managing to grab the very bottom spot in customer satisfaction with the M Class.
Considering they sell their cars on build quality and dependibility this really is a terrible result

I was looking to buy an Previous shape SL all last year, and the only thing that has stopped me buying what is IMHO a wonderfully styled car is the reliability issues of Mercedes as a whole.

Why sell a 10 year old faultless Mitsubishi risk buying something 3 times the price, 1/3 the age, and with pretentions to dependibility that it cannot deliver!

Every experience i have had with Mercs they have not failed to impress. Everyone knows how good Japanese cars are but i want somwthing with a bit more status and presence. Those surveys are very good but they don't take into consideration that the people who buy a merc or a BMW are very different to the type of person who buys a Honda Civic and in terms of the satisfaction part of the survey what people expect from their car will be very different. People will go buy a Merc with the highest expectations so any little thing will be bad. As for reliability my friend has a 220K mile c-class and it still goes well and looks good and everyone else i know who has them keeps buying them and returns anything else they have tried. I don't really need a hugely powerful car and would rathe rhave something that makes me feel good as i drive around in it.

There is not a Jap car that appeals to me and when looking at those surveys look at all the renaults and citroens and pug in the bottom of the chart and you wonder why people buy them.

anyway, better stp thread jacking and not turn this into another thread about comparing cars.

Exactly! American cars aren't at all reliable

The trans am would be good for a car that would always be parked in a garage.

    I dont have credit cards.

0l33l, I can't get an old Evolution, there isn't any! the oldest one you can get is a 03 and those are still 28k. And stop this "well looks like you've made up your mind" nagging. Its anoying. I WANT A NEW CAR...WANT!

and BTW...We decided to buy a townhome instead of renting an apartment, since we found some really nice ones that are gigantic compared to the apartment, for the same price.

I wouldn't ask for a co signer anyways.

The trans am is a reliable car, that website is ******* stupid. They dont know wtf they are talking about. The cars they say are unreliable, I know for a fact that they are. Like the dodge stratus...they say thats the worst peice of **** ever. When in fact its one of the best cars you can get. Same with a Neon, thats one of the best cars you can get when it comes to reliability. I know because they are the least to come into a shop for repairs. You want to know about reliability on cars, dont go to a website, go to the source, the place that fixes the unreliable cars. They know. And I happen to have friends that do that for a living.

A car is as reliable as what you want it to be. this trans am can EASILY be just as reliable as your Lexus!

Read the reviews on a Honda Accord...I know for a fact how reliable they are, and I dont trust the car. but read the reviews. they say they are gods gift to automobiles. I know because I read them. But I also know tons of people who have the same car. And they are sick and tired of replacing the engine, or replacing the transmission. The 3rd gear on all older honda's (-93) go out all the time. The thermostat...well thats a normal replacement part, but for some strange reason they break even when they are new...and restrict coolant...boom goes engine. After 800 dolors, I have finaly built an engine that should not blow up or have any problems for a very long time. but I still dont trust it.

I trust my stratus. It gets great miles to the gallon. The engine runs flawlessly...and I've owned 2 cars with the same engine...96 Dodge Stratus....it ran great. the tranny is very smooth, and easy to fix.

And the curent Gen (3rd) Mitsubishi Eclipse (non dsm) is extreamly reliable, especialy in the V6 model. Hell even the 2nd Gen Eclipse which is easily capable of crank walking can be reliable as long as you take care of it and deal with its problems (Thrust Bearing) before they accure. Same with a LS1 V8...Its one of the best engines Pontiac/Chevy has created...if it wasn't, why in hell would they keep it going for soo long? and why would they be puting it in a brand new 04-0+ car?(GTO) The 2nd gen eclipse had its problems with the thrust bearing going out (crank walking) and they stoped making that engine in replacement for a V6 or a 420A (420A= GS/RS Eclipse, Dodge Avenger (non V6), Dodge Stratus (non v6), Dodge Neon, Chrysler Sebring, Plymouth Breeze)....And the closest thing you can get to that engine is the reversed 4G63T that you find in the Evolution, but that one doesn't have the crank walking problem because it was fixed.

Toyota, they have problems too. Lets see what we've encountered with the 2 toyota vehicles that are in my family...Ok the Rack N Pinion gone out on my brothers 98 Tacoma...turned out a few people with the same year truck had that problem. My dads Lexus ES300, the automatic tranny is going out...found out from another lexus owner that thats suposedly a common problem on them.

Lets see what the #1 most reliable car on earth (according to the ratings), the Honda Civic! Vtec models have a major problem with the Vtec sylinoid going out...this acts like a boost leak with the vtec cam...which means weird stalling while accelerating. All the civics before the 2000 Si has the 3rd gear problem. Honda's syncro's suck!!! I have never seen soo many grinded gears then on a honda, no toyota, mitsubishi, Nissan....nada.

    All cars have thier problems.

But anyways...Before you guys continue to slam me, I haven't made up my mind on a car. But I WANT A NEW CAR. So that is what I have made up my mind about. And I have decided to go with a nice townhome (even tho they look like the rest in the neighborhood) and have a garrage, a front and back yard and tons of room. I have no credit cards, no cell phone, no bills actualy. My credit was PERFECT at a point score of 720, then it dropped all the way down to 598. 598 makes it so I can BARLY get approved for a 21k car. The point that I make less then the car I want, a year...doesn't mean **** so stop bringing that up. I am not going to pay off a freaking car in one year. That doesn't mean crap. I can EASILY AFFORD a 35k car. I just can't get financed for one now because my credit dropped.

So please stop trying to drag me down and help.

mine just droped too to where yours is because the stupid credit card company put the numbers in the wrong spot at the credit bureau. There is no really fast and simple way. Try putting money in a CD with high interest then get a loan based on that. Then pay monthly payment on your loan and when you are able to get the money for your CD. Use that to pay off your loan. Try to get the best rates and rates that are the same. Know what i mean.
