consumer reports is full of it? lol
dodge stratus is one of the best cars you can get? LMAO
And as for the 3rd gen eclipse. I bought one. 03 GT spyder back when they first were released. Less than 30 days later the engine blew over a HEAD GASKET failure. Damn car didnt register 500 total miles.
Lastly, you decided to buy a townhome instead of renting yet you cant get approved for a car? Most dealerships will bend over backwards to allow for financing. Especially on a new car with positive equity. Where is your down payment coming from @ 24k a year? There's just too much grey area in these posts to consider them legit.

You won't be able to do anything for your credit score in a month. It's going to take at least 3-6 to do any major repair to it. If it's lack of activity, you might do well to take out a best-buy credit line and open a Visa or Mastercard account.

If you have collection accounts, you can pay them off in full.

There's not much you can do if you pay bills late, etc.

I am not a lawyer, but I did work at a collections Law Firm. This is not legal advice, just my .02cents on the subject.

    Hope this helps.

There is no gray area in any of these posts. EVERY CAR HAS ITS PROBLEMS! Even 1996 Saturn SC2's!

I know personaly how reliable most cars are, and I trust people's opinions more then the consumer reports. They overexagurate everything. I'm the second owner on the stratus, and the 1st owner never had anything go wrong with it for the past 9 years. And I haven't had any problems with it since I've owned it. This accord has been in the family since 1990. I know everything its been through. And its only reliable if you baby it...and I do mean baby it. but, read the consumer reports and they report that its like the best car you can get for the money. Sure its a nice car, but the 30 friends I have who own the same gen accord as well as myself know that they cannot be trusted. Even my neighbors 96 Accord has problems all the time and they have maintained it on a regular basis. The next door neighbors 93 accord is falling apart soo badly, its becomming anoying.

I know 2 people with Eclipse GT's, one is a spyder and they haven't had any problems, and the guy with the hard top abuses the **** out of it..and it runs as good as the day it left the dealership new.

My family has allways been into domestics (except one brother) and all thier vehicles haven't had any problems. My dads Dodge Ram, my moms Dodge Dakota...Ok, I admit the Dakota has a problem with condensation inside the cockpit...but thats it. It starts every day, and drives the same the day she bought it in 97. My neighbors Black 1998 WS6 T/A..well she bought it the day it was released in 98 and she drives it every day, has 112k miles on it and it runs flawless.

I've only seen a total of one guy in here actualy put a small bit of effort in giving me an answer to help. Thats funny.

Also, as for Consumer Reports - They've been known to review 2 identical cars and rate them completely differently. The ratings in there are subjective and different reviewers, etc. can bias a rating.

Besides, buying a car should be done with a bit more research/emotion than buying a toaster or vacuum.

(Before you ask - Yes, I do subscribe to Consumer Reports)

I have never paid a bill late. Everything was paid on time. But the last time I took out a loan was...2 years ago. And it hasn't had any activity since. I'm afraid of credit cards because of what I've seen happen to my brothers. He can't even move out of his parents house and he's 33.
