I just got a new job as a field service engineer servicing medical equipment. Car, laptop, tools, training, expenses, etc. etc. and I have never been happier. Nothing like being 100% independent of supervision, responsible for your own work, and escaping the 9-5 IMO. Took over 6 months to get it though. Set up a Monster agent, apply for everything that looks good, and be patient. Always follow up on resume submittals, calls, and interviews. The person that hired me admitted to me that my resume (experience) was weak, and was moved from the B pile to the A pile simply because I called to follow up on it and to re-express my interest. Otherwise I would never even have been interviewed. Of course knowing someone and networking is always the best way to get an in.
