Congrats, wizardPC!! I'm a student at the mo, with a credit card. I learned from my parents what to do and what not to do...buy things on the card etc. I clear my Mastercard about every two months, and they have tried to up the credit limit, which I had the official at the bank make a note on my account to not let it exceed €xxx, that was where it helped! Only use it for buying stuff online (car parts 99.9%), and for the odd dinner out. I know how it feels having repayments, not nice, but I've got about €5k over 5 years on my 'student loan' (read car lol), which is perfectly manageable on + - €16k/year.
Many many congrats wizardPC, a fountain of knowledge there that I hope others take note of!!

Hehe, congrats. It's all about living inside one's means. Well done.
Wee little update:
Still debt free. Bought a 99 Jeep Cherokee for cash back in February. Paying cash for a wedding and the honeymoon in 6 weeks.
She comes with about $40,000 in student loans and credit cards. She'll be 24 and completeing her master's in the summer. It's like deja vu all over again.
I think I'm gonna set up a blog this time, rather than document it here this time. It's going to be harder this time, because she likes the idea, but she really hates it when I say things like "no, we can't buy that $1500 couch, we (I) don't have the money." She has a two-year-old-I-want-it!-moment for about ten minutes and then calms down. Just like I did when I started.

Fantastic! Aren't you glad you got rid of all of your debt just as the economy gets worse? If you'd kept on it, you probably would have bought a house with zero down and jacked up interest rates and be filing for bankruptcy right now.
Good luck with getting her on a debt-diet!

Yeah being recession-proof has it's advantages.
And as I've said before, $4/gal gas is easier to afford when you dont have a $600/month car payment.

Good work mate. Good to see you are still at it. Best of luck with the wedding.
