off topic- how to combine pictures?

For example how could i join these two icons

so they are shown exactly as they are side by side but are in one file only rather than seperate images they are now?

I want to combine some gifs and upload to a hosing service so that one URL will show both pics in forums etc

Fireworks will do it easy

I'm not sure about fireworks since I never used it but as for mspaint if its an animated icon like the ones above and you edit with mspaint it won't be animated anymore
