    html/web design question

    Just a quick ? I think someone here could probably help me with. I have a web-based alpha pager that I use for work, and I was wondering if I could write a "front-end" type webpage that I could give out to my friends so they could page me from it if they needed to. The caveat is I don't want them to be able to see the actual webpage used to page me. So for example, I can be alpha paged from say http://pageme.com... but I want to have an html file liek http://mypersonalpage.com/pageme where they can enter the text and then it will be "forwarded" to other other page which will then page me.

    let me know if this doesn't make any sense.

    the reason being is ultimately I want to control when non-work personnel can page me by taking down/putting up the "front end" webpage.

    If you gut want your page to foward to a different page you can use this code with the url inserted for the destination (the part in bold). It will then transfer the user to the other site, they will not remain at your site.

    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">
    <html>
    <head>

    <META HTTP-EQUIV="Refresh" CONTENT="0;URL=http://www.pagersite.com/Index.htm">
    <title>Redirect</title>
    </head>
    <body>

    </body>
    </html>

    You could also just copy the source from the one that works and integrate the functionality into your website.
    I did that once when I had an alpha pager....

    Christ, that was like 8 years ago, now that I think about it....
    Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
    How about the Wiki?

    Under normal circumstances, a signature would go here.

    Does your pager have an email address? I can email/text message my phone "phonenumber@cellcompany.com" (I can also do the reverse) If it does you could use a mail form/code. If not just copy the code on the pager company's site, but when they hit send, they will be directed away from your site.

    THe only problem with coping the code is that if there is anykind of back end (anything dynamic about the page) It will not work. back end code is run on the back end server and then written at the time of loading the page as html. With out the database and related code the html you get from a view source is worthless.

    good luck!

    If your personal webserver has some server-side scripting possibilities, you can make a script/program (in php/jsp/asp, whatever) that inputs text etc into the original page, without the user being able to know where it goes.

    All the other options proposed here have the same flaw: if the user has 1 braincell, he will get around you taking down your personal page
