    A little computer help please...

    Hey all,

I'm having a problem with a client's computer. I have upgraded it from an ECS K7S5A Pro (Product Details) to an MSI K7N2G-ILSR (Product Details).

Everything in the Windows XP installation went just fine, until it reboots after finishing the install. I reboots, goes to the windows boot screen, and right before it gets to the part where I'm supposed to register and find the internet connection etc..., the monitor turns off (like there isn't a signal going to it.

I'm using the onboard video which is an Nvidia GeForce4 MX4000 (or something like that), I know that Windows has problems detecting alot of the Nforce drivers by it'self. But I thought that at least it would be able to use a generic driver to get me past the install.

Anyways, just wondering if anyone knows what I can try.

O, before anyone tells me to or , I already have. I do have an A+ cert I just got a year ago, and I've been working on computers for the past 10-13 years. This thing has me completely flustered.

    Thanks for reading,

    Rafster

I concure with stevieg but it could also be that windows is looking for an AGP card or switching ot the video out or summit as it's like when you run a PCI card and an AGP card (before anyone comments i know the onboard graphics are AGP) and it initially boots on the PCI and then switches to the AGP around the time the welcome screen pops up.

You could try a re-install i guess - bit of a bore but you ahve to do this with a new mobo anyway.

have you tried a 2nd monitor? maybe windows did find the nforce driver and decided to use a resolution that is too high for your monitor.

a lot of monitors will appear to just shut off when they get a signal that isnt right for them.

Thanks all for your help. You know, it's funny, I tried to boot to safe mode, and it works. I just want to know how I can set the onboard video to something very minimal so that I can then install the nvidia software and setup the resoulution. I don't think that the res is too high I have a 19" Viewsonic that can handle res's that are pretty high. Any ideas on how to set video card to something else in safe mode so that I can continue the install?

    Thanks,

    Rafster
