Totally OT here, but it was my thread to begin with.

I attended a conference where Kjell Nordstrum, a Finnish economist spoke to a European audience and one of his main points was that the it takes far less time to become a U.S. citizen than most other companies (he asked how many non-German directors were running Siemans, how many non-Finnish directors were running Nokia, etc.). His premise was built around immigration and the opportunities that it provides for non-Americans to become citizens and how that contrasted with the inability to attract world class talent in some countries because of immigration laws. He was urging companies to allow this even if countries may not.

Long way around, I used to be less accepting of immigration than I am now. Looking back over the U.S. history, one can see how liberal immigration laws have attracted world class talent. (Note I am not talking about illegal immigration here).

Anyhow, I found it a very interesting premise. Others clearly hold different opinions.
