I think anyone born in the early 1940's and late 1930's was in the Hitler youth.

At that point in time some things were done more or less in the interest of self-preservation.

you know Pope John Paul II was a polish gas salesman in the 30s.

"In the early 1940s, IG Farben Chemical Company employed a Polish chemist and salesman who sold cyanide gas, Zyklon B and Malathion to the Nazis for extermination of groups of people in Auschwitz.

After the war the salesman joined the Catholic church and was ordained a priest.

In 1958 he became Poland's youngest bishop and after Pope John Paul I's mysterious death, the ex-cyanide gas salesman Karol Wojtyla was elected to the papacy as Pope John Paul II in October 1978.

In March 2000, he publicly apologized not for his war effort, but for the wickedness of the Christian religion. The plea for forgiveness also sought to pardon the use of 'violence in the service of truth' an often used fragile and treoubling referenece to the Inquisition.

The apology read by the Pope was the result of four years of work by a panel of 28 theologians and scholars and was by far the most sweeping act by a leader of a major religion.

On few occasions have ecclesiastical authorities ever acknowlegdegd the faults or abuses of which they themselves were guilty. There was concern that the apology was a major theological miscalculation that could undermine the Pope's weakening authority and the unanswered question posed by the international media was --
'In whose name was the Pope asking for forgiveness?' "

Its one of those conspiracy theories really, and the fact it says he sold it FOR the concentration camps may be false. Selling to the German Nazi party or the German govt may not be so far fetched, but knowing what it was "used" for, the Pope may not have known.

The pope PRIOR to John Paul II was ANOTHER conspiracy theory in that he was ASSASINATED! Why? Some say because he was planning on releasing the Vatican's assets. Dissolving rhe Catholic bank and basically making Catholicism less commercial. The Vatican disagreed and had him killed, putting John Paul II in his place because he agreed with the old ways of doing it. Did you know the Catholic church is rich? CMON PASTOR NEEDS A NEW CAR!

Oh and I found this too FACTUAL info:

The "Smiling Pope," as he was affectionately called was born Albino Luciani on October 17, 1912 near Belluno, Italy. He was ordained in 1935, made Bishop in 1958 and became patriarch of Venice in 1969. He received his cardinal's hat in 1973. He was a staunch believer in ecumenism and the reduction of Church wealth. He was warm, humble and had no aspirations for the papacy. After Pope Paul VI died, Luciani was elected on the second day of the Conclave in 1978. He refused to wear the papal tiara or to be carried in the gestatorial chair. He was praised as a liberal reformer who read Mark Twain. He was on a mission to reverse the Church's position on contraception, cleaning up the Vatican bank and dismissing many Masonic cardinals.
