you should have a good friend as a mechanic, because you keep failing emisions, it's onna cost you more. first fix all of the problems than go to emmissions...
Or find a place that does free retests
If the car is still hesitating after resetting the ECU and driving around a bit, check to see if that car has a TPS (throttle position sensor). They occasionally go bad and cause all kinds of interesting problems.
Regarding the oil issue... if the light is coming on, it's probably the oil pressure sending unit. Either it has gone bad, or the cable that goes to it has fried from all the heat and is grounding out. That's assuming you don't actually have some oil issues (as in low/no oil or bad oil pump).
The local emissions testing facility does offer one free retest. I took it to emissions for the second time today. Yesterday I replaced the AFM. Passed emissions like it was child's play. That car emits 1/10th of the legal limits.
Got it registered and now I can drive it. w00t. Still have some serious hesitation issues that need to be resolved though.

lgbr, I don't know how your ECU setup is but when I reprogram the Pug ECU i clear the data by unplugging it for 10 minutes then when i start up for the 1st time i put everything electrical on like the window demister, lights, fog lights, stereo on loud and also put the aircon on to get te ECU to know just how much load the engine can expect to have to put up with at idle. I do this as my car has a stepper motor for the idle speed so if i don't do it i get a very rough idle as the engine stutters.
As for driving, i notice that it definitely makes a difference how you drive the car to re-setup the ECU. Defienitely keep the revs resonably high (3-4K on my car which has a 6k redline).
Whenever i reset my ECU the car chucks so much fuel out of the exhuast and stutters like hell!
Also have you checked the HT leads and fuel filter? They were causing my car to hesitate badly. (i think i read you changed/cleaned the air filter but i could be mistaken).

Yargh. Tried to take it to school today. About half way there I notice the check engine light is on, and then notice my water temperature gauge is off the scale! I pull it over and the engine is steaming. Took the tow truck an hour and a half to get there. Gonna get through calculus and then go have Toyota look at it.
