But what if you ask a lot of questions or use all you point too soon?

Ok say we give a quota of 50 or something. I sitll think a sustained effort on a threa should be rewarded accordingly but it has to be something you can do there and then or people won't bother.

I have a little bit of experience with this as i have done quite abit of project mamagement in situations where i had no 'real' authority and it is hard. If i had been their real boss in a real job then i would have had a lot more power given to me. As it was i had to generate the power muyself with no backup - eg you are fired. and in that work there was a lot of peer marking where people had to provide feedback on who had been the most useful etc etc and it is funny the way people act and react.

this place is the same - there is no real structure (except for the mods of course) and that makes setting up any kind of system hard. I think it will be a success only if you don't expect it to be a roaring success - if you see what i mean but it has to be quick and easy but effective and not open to abuse.

Well I have spared many brain cells into this thread and I decided to express my true opinion. If you would like me to say I love your ideas and kiss your @ss then you are talking to the wrong member.

I was not ****ting on your ideas, I was expressing my honest opinion about them. I think they were good ideas but too technical. If you think otherwise than no one is stopping you from defending your answer.

Wow, I just sounded pretty mean, don't take the above as serious as it is written.

crikey! you don't know when to stop do you? and stop using people phrases back at them - it can be taken as being very rude!

I gve you my ideas on ways you could implement it and problems you may face and you complain! The purpose of this thread, as i took it, was to see who would be up for the idea and also for ideas on how to implement it. I consider my ideas to be very broad and general and not technical at all!

If was getitng technical i would go into how the stats calcs could be done using the data to work out the winner each month from 1st clicks, second clicks etc and I would also go into the coding required.

If you think what i wrote is technical i would love you to read the British Aerospace (BAe) guide to marking schemes wich i had to be familiar as prohject manager and now even more so for marking undergraduate work! that is a mini telephone book on how how to calcualte marks using percentages, peer marking scores etc etc! and it is very boring!

    hehe i win

nah dont worry - i was just making a point and was using you as an unknowing helper.

sometimes people try to be helpful and answer a thread the way they read it. also they get tied up in their own ideas about an issue and go slightly off on a tangent. It is very rare for people to acknowledge someone help, sometimes out of rudeness but more likely it is is due to the fact they don't see the need to make an extra post to say 'hey thanks' or they doubt the person is ever going to check back and read it anyway. and even if they did there would be no way of knowing they appreciated the thanks might go unreplied.

But my main point is due to peoples differning opinions and experiences, people seem to always find faults with other peoples answers - almost as if it is a macho ritual. and this can hurt the honest and good information that someone has been given . all too much people have to defent ideas like their life depended on it and also becasue they really want the perosn to get the best advice. I have done this and witnesses it many times. Someone really knows they are right and some other jackass is interfering and instead of walk away and give up some people really stick at a thread and slog it out which can actually hurt their repution and i think some way of rewarding the die hard people would be good. i willanswer a thread as hinest and as helpfully as i can, when being serious, even though i might not like someone. I am not here to deceive people or bull**** and i know a lot of people who are the same and i also know a lot of people who don't trust as far as i can throw them.

Your idea is an excellent one, i have not denied that but i am just opening your eyes to the possibility of rewarding poeple who really stick at something as it is something which i feel strongly about.

My suggestions are not perfect, i never claimed they were but I think they do have a chance of working with some tweaking and combined with other people ideas or maybe bits of them can be used to make someone elses ideas, better.

I could have just said "YES do it" but that is not my nature. I felt like i should make additonal suggestions but i then carried on with it to prove a point and for that i appologise of i caused you offence or your were concerned you caused me any.

You do not have many posts to your name and are new but for all i know you could have been reading thos forum long before me but i wasnt sure, going from your post count, that you had been involved in many of this type of heated discussion where people start getting funny with each other and i just wanted to generate one - sorry!

Now, go work on a good plan to implement this idea of yours!

    Andy
