    OT - Registry clean up

    Hi,

I seem to have an awful lot of processes running on my machine that I probably don't need. In addition the registry could probably do with cleaning up as well.

Anyone know any good and trustworthy programs that will do this ??

    Cheers,

    Matt

Do you have XP? If you do go to start->Run->and type msconfig. Click the startup tab. There you will see everything that starts when your computer boots. You can deselect anything in there as the system proccesses aren't listed in that. Just unselect anything you aren't familiar with. Go to download.com and search for a registry cleaner, there are plenty of those.
AMD XP 2600+/512MB RAM/120GB hard drive
    Opus 150W/DVD/GPS/7" Lilliput TS/802.11g/Bluetooth
    Installed.

    -GPSSecure- - GPS Tracking
    -AltTabber2.2.2- - Handy touchscreen utility.

Is there a way to find out what a program is? There are things I don't recognize but that doesn't mean I don't need them, right?

Most likely you don't need them You can put the name of the program in google and usually it comes up under one of the process information websites. That is how I find out what unknown items are. Usually just spyware.

If it does then you can always reenable it in safe mode. But seriously, it is a fat chance that you can screw anything up by disabling it.
A good thing to do is just disable everything, restart your computer, if you notice something is missing then reenable it, if you don't notice anything then you didn't need any of the things that were coming up

I'd also install Microsoft Anti-Spyware and run a full scan - this will rip any rubbish out of the startup such as spyware and the like.
