# Thread: What are you doing for 4/20 @ 4:20?

1. ## What are you doing for 4/20 @ 4:20?

Its that time of year again.

When the righteous drift off to a green wonderland filled with fairies and whores. THe kind of day that can only come once a year because it corresponds with what some call, the perfect time to smoke.

So like the pagans before, the long haired hippy created a time with which to partake of natures goodness. You may ask, why make a time and not a day? And I say to that, stoners need it everyday, so if you have to ask that question, keep reading. Was it because of "beepers" the precursor to the "cellphone" today that sparked the interest? Probably not, hippies dont use electronics. But good guess. Though its a good guess, its probably and most likely incorrectly assumed. COuld be that 4 equals TIME (4 letters) 2 equals TO (2 letters) and the 0 means SMOKE (cuz it has an O in it?), couold be, but probably not. More likely, the hippies had some sort of blood orgy and Jebus came down from his cloudlike pillow to tell them of a tale. But since no one could really focus while he told it, they just say 4:20 adding a 0 to the Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy.

In the end some brilliant mathematician realized after the 4:20 idea that April 20th was seen as 4/20 on digital calendars. AND BAM we got a holiday.

So take work off, take your pants off, take your bra (if you got one) and throw it over the balcony, its time to relax and enjoy the holidays.

4. I know it's been posted before, but 420 (and thus 4:20 and 4/20) and its significance can be attributed to the Waldos:

According to Steven Hager, editor of High Times, the term 420 originated at San Rafael High School, in 1971, among a group of about a dozen pot-smokers who called themselves the Waldos, who are now pushing 50. The term was shorthand for the time of day the group would meet, at the campus statue of Louis Pasteur, to smoke pot. Intent on developing their own discreet language, they made 420 code for a time to get high, and its use spread among members of an entire generation. And it has spread all over the country to the present day.

A quote from one of the Waldos in the High Times article states, "We did discover we could talk about getting high in front of our parents without them knowing by using the phrase 420."

5. 4:20 today? I'll be in class....I have a feeling it'll be nice and empty there so I can get some sleep in before work

6. I haven't heard this brought up since I was in middle school and the punk middle school kids thought it was cool to vandalize the school with 4:20.
Lamest thing I have ever heard of.

This clears up some of the legends around 420. Funny, I knew it wasn't the "police code" for anything but I never knew what it was from. Turns out that the origin of it started about 40 minutes from my house!
Have fun and be safe today... I'll be doing what I like doing best: Taking a nap!!

8. 420 is not lame. its a thing, its a pop culture thing. GAWD just cuz the stoners in yer HS didnt invite you to get high behind the jungle gyms dont make 420 and the number 4, 2 and 0 in that order LAME.

Jeez, more uptight straightedges than I ever seen on these boards.
