    Thinking of getting a Jag

    Yes I am considering getting a Jaguar .. an '85 XJ6
    http://www.carsoup.com/used/detail.a...iewID=4&Page=1

However I know nothing of these things.. they just intregue me. My wife says she doesn't want it.. but I would elt her have the explorer, besides it would be better for the baby anyway .. and a new car to put a PC in.. and it's almsot a classic..

there is just something about how it looks that doesn't make me want to vomit on it.. like most american cars from '85

I need some advice and questions to ask before i buy or to buy at all..

I've heard of the "Lucas" wiring . and it's a bugger to deal with..

so overall it's a good buy if it runs nice and rides well and such?

The older ones used to have a reliabilty issue.

see if you can find some Jag forums and ask questions there.

I have heard that the mid-80's jags were pretty unreliable

    All Jags are pretty unreliable.

When you spend $$$ on a car (ie a luxury car) you are expected to have the money to keep it running. You think a $200,000 Lamborghini never breaks down? LOL it breaks more often than not.

Older jags were fit into these categories cuz they were REAL Jags and not FORD Jags. Now a jag is just a nice FORD. But its a ford, and a car and thusly a POS.

I may be completely wrong but I know that the more you spend on a car (or how much it WAS worth when it was produced) the more its going to cost to fix it. And perhaps by the same token the more it breaks down....

    My thoughts:
Civic = $15k = never breaks = when it breaks its cheap to fix (ok never is wrong but cmon)

BMW = $30-100K = usually never breaks = NOT cheap to fix

Ferrari = $300k = breaks all the time from driving it like **** = COSTS more than you would think to fix even an O-ring.

Bottom line, dont buy older cars. Dont buy cars with high mileage just because it brought the price of a nice car down. Buy newer with less miles and get what you can afford, not what you want. Cars suck balls and always will (even when they switch from fossil fuels) because no matter WHAT you always pay to drive (maintenance, gas & above all INSURANCE)
