Definition of 'Speeding': Dirving above the posted speed limit.

Yup, you were speeding! You didn't mean too. You Camry can't speed. Yet, you were speeding. Surprising how it works, no?

Besides, I was in an old, ghetto, automatic Camry. You can't speed in those things.

Every time you stop for a stop sign or red light at 3am at an empty intersection, every time you slow down, not because you need to, but because a sign tells you to, every time you obey a law simply because it's a law, Big Brother giggles like a little Nazi school girl. The speed limits have no bearing on your driving ability or anyone elses. Any retard can do 90mph down a highway. It's not difficult. But, your safety is only a secondary concern to the state. The traffic laws are first and foremost a means for it to take your money and give to it someone else--probably a crack head.

(And a public accustomed to accepting such traffic laws is one primed for the acceptace of any arbitrary law Big Brother can devise. But I won't get into that.)

True... I really wanted a manual, but those cost like $2g extra

Yeh, but the officer will hear when the car shifts into second. I can also turn the O/D off and the car will slow down.

Strange - I'm sure auto's cost more than manuals. But then, I suppose there isn't much of a market for manuals in the U.S.....

The only problem with this is most states (I know for a fact AR, TX, and FL) have in the code that you should drive with the flow of traffic (irregardless of the posted speed limit). The entire point of this is to make sure that if everyone is driving 55 your not driving 45 (posted speed limit) and causing a problem (as people are trying to pass you up). I have personally been pulled over in TX because I was DRIVING the speed limit during rush hour and they kept me on the side of the road for like 40 minutes until traffic thinned out (but I didnt get a ticket). :>

I have gotten out of 2 tickets that I got while doing this very thing. The only problem is it is VERY difficult to prove that you were driving with the speed of traffic (so if you are going faster then the posted limit then you are owned).

The only ways I got out of the 2 above (the only 2 speeding tickets I have ever received by the way) was in situation #1 the officer testified in court that there was 4 other cars going the same speed (this was a 2 lane road) and that since I was the last car in the line he got me. I opened the drivers manual (its on page 2 in the AR drivers manual) and read the part that delt with this and the ticket got dismissed. The 2nd situation I got out of it because there was a COP 2 cars in front of me going just as fast. I brought up entrapment and the ticket was thrown out quick. (the funny thing is that they had a camera on the dash of the cop car that clocked me and it also clocked the cop in front of me).

So speeding is speeding except when its not speeding :>

I wish that were true here. I told the judge the other cars were going 32 and I was going 34. Didn't have any bearing on the judgement.

And yes, traffic tickets are just a way for the government to make money.

Boris, how would the cop hear you downshift? You have to be inside the car to hear that. I wish there were more manuals in the US. Automatics are really a waste of time. They cost gas money, and manufacturing money. It's incredibly stupid.

The government is here to protect us from ourselves, didn't you know that? The speed limits are set up in such a way so that any dope with a license can drive down a road without screwing themselves up (aside from old folks out for Sunday drives).

So, while you, I, and everyone on this board can drive safely at 90+ mph with our tricked out spead deamons, we have to suffer becuase Jane Doe with her beat up old Pinto might just take out a school bus full of children if she goes 1 mph over 55.

While you may disagree with the laws, think of all the stupid people who are out there, and how these laws will protect us from them!

he's right. there was a movie posted a while back showing two cars zig-zagging between dense trafic. now that's what i do mostly. (i do have a radar-detector though not risking it...) BUT. as he sad, WE can do thet. See in Europe where i LEARNED to drive we had to take classes. a minimum of 30 hours on a closed course with obstacles and traffic situaions, a test after that, than a minimum of 20 hours of "traffic" driving (read regular driing around in city, highway, and mall roads), than another test that lasted 45 minutes. And before all of this you have to read through two 300-350 page books to learn all the signs and rules and logics of driving. Now, when i got my license over here, geez... that's all i can say and laugh. The NY booklet was like 80 pages, an more than half of it was that you shouldn't drink, and do drugs. the test? 5 minutes literrally around a block with 4 stop signs, a reverse paralel parking, and a Y U-turn. when the officer got out, i laughed so hard, i thought i gonna **** myself. Now I believe it's safer for me to do 90+ on a highway with these abilities, and a good car of course, than some avarage american doing the 55-60 in his avarage suv. even if i zig-zagg. Why? Because i can calculate. distance, speed of other cars, situations, and such.

sorry for a long post, but i had to vent...

    Let me guess ... you're a democrat??

I'll agree a good number of speed limits are lower than they should be in order to provide for an easy method of generating revenue (for example I-285 in Atlanta which has an understood speed limit of 80 has a posted limit of 55)

But comparing it to naziism? What do you suggest? that we remove all speed limits from the roads of this country where being responsible is viewed as a bad thing? In an ideal world you could bank on people behaving in a manor consistent with not putting themselves or others in danger. But in this 'me' oriented society of america, the well being of other people is the last thing on most people's mind.
