Automatics can be convenient, but I mostly find them annoying. I can't ever get my car to shift into 3rd gear when going up my friend's hill. In second its just too slow (and I don't feel like pushing it to 5000rpm), and if I'm in drive with the o/d off it ends up in 4th

Most of the girls I talk to think that a car is just for transporation, but we know that its much more than that

Now I wish every car came with an SMG

Because they have to build an extra plant for automatics. They sometimes make different engines for automatics. The car has to be easily swappable for both. If it were manuals only, there would be more availability of parts, and cars would be easier to design.

Less wiring too... the automatics have to have an ECU

no they don't, not any more than their manually shifted brethren; Take a look at all of the lincolns and caddy's of the 1950's, most (if not all) had automatics, and did not have a ecu.

    Ummm... those are american cars.

    Please provide a better example

Like if I swapped a 6sp in my car, I could still reuse the auto ECU. But most automatics have extra wiring. Like the tranny ECU has to know when to shift, etc...
You do know that the frist automatics had to be replaced with manuals... right?

Yes they do. Try swapping your 200SX's transmission. You will need to replace the ECU. Not only that, but if you look at the fuse box on an automatic car, you'll see a fuse for the automatic transmission. Usually around 30 amps.

Cars should be manual.... the subway is already automatic, so if you want auto transportation go subway!

and yes, while i would have to swap the ecu's, one could also use this argument that manual transmissions have ecu's (and as 0l33l said, you could use the manual+autoecu, but it would not yeild regular performance)
