    i need a serious advice..

i had a talk with my supervisors (there are two) today and found out that they didn't like the way i do things sometimes. i've been working there for about a year, and they've NEVER mentioned anything until when I asked for a raise today.. it was kinda shocking to me, because i thought i was doing what i was supposed to do.. the funny thing is they were bringing up the smallest things that i did 6-7 months ago.. i'm really disappointed how immature and ignorant they are.. (btw, they never graduated college) they were also saying that i should've got to know more people in the library. i work at a library as a computer technician, and there are A LOT of people working there..i only asked one of my supervisors a few times "where does this person work?" when i got a request to fix their computer.. they were saying i'm not independent enough to work.. (they expect me to figure out where everyone works by myself.. and get to know every single person in the library by talking to them) the problem is.. i'm usually too busy to walk around to talk to everyone and get to know them.. besides, i'm kind of a shy person and don't like to just talk to random people that work in the library.. today, i found a job position that i'm very interested.. should i quit my current job right now and apply for the other job? or should i just work at the library (through all this shiet) until i get the other job? i'm afraid that the new job employer might call one of my supervisors and ask them about me.. i'm usually very nice and friendly to my supervisors, and we never had much trouble before until today.. what do you guys think?

Does the other job pay better? Offer better benfits? Will it help advance your job skills/advancement? Is the library limiting your skills/advancement? How sure do you feel about getting the other job?

    Simple

Keep working at the library and go for a interview on the next job

Make sure you tell the next job you need 2 weeks notice.

Id also keep some money on hand if they decided to kick you out instead of waiting 2 weeks (so your got some money to live off till the new job starts)

Never EVER quit a job if you don't know 100% that you have another job to jump stright into.

It might be a **** job but getting money while looking for another job is best as you never know how long till you get a job.

Odyssey brings up a good point will it help your skills? will it pay you better? will it give better hours?

You must weigh each thing carefully i know i use to be shy like you but seriously getting out there and talking to people is the best way to help you overcome it.

just talking to anew person once a week is good enough maybe walk up to someone and say "hi im blah blah im the I.T tech here i haven't been introduced to you and ask if they need anything on their pc fixed etc and then say call me if you need me"

this lets you build up on your vocal and social skills and also lets you loosen up with the shyness thing

wow.. i didn't expect to get replies so quick.. thanks for the replies guys.. i'm a college student and don't really need a job desperately.. i just work so i can have some spare money for hobbies (like carputer).. as for the wage/benefit for the other job, it's about same as my current job.. maybe a little more or little less.. i think i've been working enough to know how to handle most computer problems now..(which means i will learn more having the new job) one thing i know for sure is that the new job will not involve as much physical work as my current job.. i hated moving dusty heavy monitors and computers.. this library job is my first job, and i'm not quite sure "how to quit" the job.. NiN^_^NiN, why should i tell the next job i need 2 week notice? does that mean they will tell me if i got the job or not in two weeks?

btw, i've been reading a lot on this site but never registered because i never had to.. (in case anyone is wondering why my first post is in offtopic.. haha)

If you quit your job you need to give 2 weeks notice before they let you quit it so the new job would have to wait 2 weeks before you can start.

Im not sure were your from but i think 2 weeks notice is standard in most countries.

Do not burn any bridges with your current employer. When you apply tell the new employer you can not start for two weeks. Once you get the job, tell your current employer that you will be leaving in two weeks. You want to be able to fall back on your past employers for good references or even future employment with them (if things do not work out).

Also from the sounds of your post you need to work on your people skills. I know being shy is hard, I am. But interacting with people (customers or co-works) is the key to any job.

Thats a valid point you wan't to keep the bridges standing as a good reference but to use the company you have now as a reference probably isn't wise.

For future references sure but it all depends if the company your with now would be happy to give your a reference and not want to get rid of you cause your trying to leave (it might fall through and your still at the library)

Legally the only time a employer can give a bad reference is if you are fired.
