Pat, I had the same thing happen on a car a couple years ago. The motor gets seized up as already mentioned. Sometimes/usually when this happens the motor is dying. But I was able to give it a little more "juice" by hooking a battery charger up straight to the window motor, bypassing everthing including the switch. Also you can try tapping on it with a hammer or something while powering it. My window still works fine to this day. Give it a try to save some work and money.

Ha Ha! I use to do stuff like that with old Rock Tumbler motors (Boy Scouts). Soaking them in oil for a few months sometimes did the trick, too.

I liked your last girl better...

Had any time to work on your window PatO? Curious what you ended up doing.

Sorry, it eventually turned out I hadn't earthed the auto-down relay and it refused to do anything. Also let it dry out, working no prob!

    Sorry for my impatience

Searched on that car part website for a replacement - no dice. So it looks like I either have to go to a dealer (puke) or fix it myself. I'll pull it apart this weekend and soak it and bash it for a few days...

    Dammit!
Pulled the door apart today. The motor was RIGHT THERE! Just my luck - one friggin bolt was covered by a mounting bracket. I felt around the bracket and it looks like it stretches all over the inside of the door! I think I have to unmount the entire window to get the motor out! <ARRGH>
It's pretty thick metal, too. I'll see if I can't drill a small portion out so I can get at the bolt - but I'm wondering if loosing the motor will cause the window to loosen up..
It would suck driving to work with a plastic bag over my window!
