AllI can say is Holy Schnikeys! (Long story)

    What a friggin' weekend.

OK, I'm a single parent. I make every effort to see my daughter. She's been staying with me for about six awesome weeks.
But time to send her back to her mother came, so my girlfriend and I did just that. I'm in Dallas, and my daughter's mom is in Ohio.

Throw into the mix that this weekend was my brithday. So we planned a 'weekend getaway' for my birthday, in conjunction with taking my daughter back.
We ended up road-tripping to Louisville, KY and going to the Streetrod Nationals. My girlfriend's stepdad has a '33 Dodge, shown here:

    Part two...

OK, so My girlfriend's '02 Kia wasn't eligible to enter the NSRA show. Gotta be 1949 or earlier. So we parked at a department store in the Kia and were picked up in the above Dodge.
As a present, the owner of this work-in-progress paid to register an additional car (fictional) so that my girlfriend, daughter and I could get into the show all weekend.

I've got a ****load of photos of the cars at the show (mostly trucks) that I will post later. It was an incredible time. My daughter was a bit borwed, but we did have some fun and final bonding time.

So anyway, We left Wednesday and got back a little while ago.
Here's the parking lot at our hotel around 6:00am EST (that's our Kia in the lower-left corner!!!):

    Part Three

Did you count the rods in the parking lot? There were about 8 in that backlot and another 8 (at least) on other sides of the hotel. They were all around, I tell ya.

So, early this merning before a long drive ahead of us, we meet at Cracker Barrel for breakfast. "We" would include me, my girlfriend, her mom and stepdad. Her mother basically gave my girlfriend and I a 1954 Ford pickup rolling chassis (pretty much stock but needs a ****load of work) and a 350 motor that may or may not run. This was a project that my girlfriend's father (who passed away a little over a year ago) had started on, but could not complete before he was stricken with cancer.

So now I have a project that's significant in terms not only of workload and expense, but also of emotional significance. This is one of the few remaining objects my girlfriend has to remember her father (they were really, really close). We're going to do our best to make a fitting tribute.

I know next-to-nothing about restoring/customizing a vehicle, so this is going to be a complete learning experience for me.

I'm planning on going to a lot of shows to meet vendors and see what's out there for what I've got and what can be done with it. I've got lots of ideas in my head about what I want to do with this, and so does my Girlfriend.
As much as I think it would be cool to integrate a computer into this, it's not going to happen. It wouldn't fit in with the tribute idea.

Her stepdad's family are all a bumnch of hotrodders Here's a pic of their Model T.

They also have a 40's Coupe. It's pretty sharp, too but I didn't get a picture of it.
one brother does upholstry and another does bodywork. I've got some people to go to for advice and/or help with this. Unfortunately, theyr'e in Loouisville, KY and I'm in Dallas, TX.

So.... What an amazing birthday I had.

call up overhauling, let them do it for your girlfriend as a surprise, they seem to love doing it for emotional reasons.

    I thought about that, too.
I saw the Overhauluin' that was on over teh weekend with the guy who gave his buddy a kidney and they did up his Tahoe. That could actually work, except I'm a little far from LA, where they do the show. I don't know if they'd extradite from Dallas or not.

Just checked the website. Location is no problem, but the vehicle needs to be running. Right now, it is not in a running state....

I gotta admit: the idea of a Foose-designed '54 pickup makes me drool a little bit.

That is freaking great! How much better can it be?! You have a hot rod AND your gf wants you to spend every waking minute on it.

That's an out of body experience!
