    Canadian Duty Tax???

When people in Canada recieve something in the mail (from the US), must they pay Duty Tax???
Canada is a Free Trade Country, but "free trade" does not apply to this, does it?

At what amount must the buyer (in Canada) start paying a tax on a product...or, when does the "red flag" go up?

When I buy from the us I have to pay brokerage fees and vat(I think its called like that) , Costs about 20$ for a 100$ order (but depends mostly on weight I think).

    Canadian supplier

    www.ottcomputing.com

They are in Ottawa, Ontario Canada. He's been my supplier for all my carpc stuff. He's going to be supplying pretty much everything from an online site within the next month or so, but I know he can get stuff now.
I suggest you buy from him. That way he'll take care of duties etc.. He still comes out cheaper than buying from the US yourself. So far for me at least.

Hmmm... I've ordered plenty of things from Canada into the US and never got hit with duties. Its always a warning from the seller that I am responsible for them, but so far haven't had to pay them. My orders ranged from $50-$300US.
    Spent so far: $1,755

US to Canada via ground shipping = Tax
US to Canada via air shipping = No tax, usually
Canada to US = No tax

NAFTA only applies to items made in North America, plus I think the shipper has to fill out a form too. Also if the shipper declares it a gift then no taxes.

I've been nailed a few times by these unexpected fees..

Usually when shipping by UPS or FedEx you get charged with brokerage fees and taxes.

If you ask the seller on eBay or even the company you're buying from to mark the customs sheet as a GIFT and send it by USPS Air, I seem to never have to pay any taxes or duty. Hope that helps.

Just realized ODYSSEY said basically the identical thing as me so it must be true then
