I would say it's the result of both US and UN policies towards each other rather than unilateral UN suckage. The relationship between both entities sucks big one, but I bet you that if US actually paid it's UN dues, Annan would be be singing a different tune. That alone should tell you that it's one disfunctional relationship.

• Be brave -- ask US for more money.
  
• Salt and pepper beard more.
  
• Apply for US citizenship.

• Switch lame blue helmets of peacekeeping forces to ninja masks.
  
• Make sure diplomatic immunity applies to downloading illegal nude photos of that smoking broad Condi.
  
• Do charter bi-lines allow the UN to stockpile Weapons of Mass Destruction of their own? Could be help when negotiating with uppity Western Nations. Look into it this year. FOR REAL THIS TIME!!!!

Paid our dues? You do realize without us the UN would not exist right? The peacekeeping forces are something like 75% US forces, etc. etc. I guess we could still miss dues but hey, point is we still give plenty lol.

I'm not a big fan of Kofi though after the Oil For Food scandal, anyone who was truley there becuase he beleived hard in the mission etc. etc. would have resigned after that. Tennet did it, Powell did it, Powell may have been told to but I think Tennet did it on his own judgement.

Yea hehe I am looking forward to it, we will have to setup a east WA meet =D I am just ready to get out, not so much looking forward to school (more so than the typical thing) if I was in good enough shape I would have enlisted instead but yea lol. Gotta do something which is pretty much college or military and like I said cant do military yet so college it is lol =D

You people are raging against UN as if it ever was anything than what it is now, and US is just as complicit in its corruption as all the other members. Although the purpose of the UN was "to bring all nations of the world together to work for peace and development, based on the principles of justice, human dignity and the well-being of all people," it barely ever made beyond a place for the superpowers to socialize. It is true that US troops are the majority of UN peace keeping forces, but where have those troops been since the passing of UN resolution 242? That's the one concerning Israel and Palestine and how they should negotiate and Israel should move its butt from the occupied lands once “peace” is achieved. I don’t remember reading about US pushing for UN forces to get in there and make some peace. It wasn’t in the American interest. And hey, Soviet Union didn’t ask for any peace keeping forces in Afghanistan. Sure as heck Britain and France weren’t sending their troops to Middle East during Iran-Iraq war. And not too many countries said much about any of the Latin America’s conflicts. For every place that got some UN peace keepers, there’s always been two places that had none.

I wasn’t trying to defend UN with my first comment; I was pointing out that the relationship is messed up. Right from the beginning each member of UN has been trying to promote their own agenda (be it US, USSR or Britain). Back in a day when the goals of US and most of Europe were aligned, US obviously had more of a say, now that USSR is gone, UN has more members and barely any country has similar personal interests as US, the organization as a whole is less inclined to take American point of view into account, right or wrong.

Yes, I agree that it’s ****ed up the way Kofi has acted, but then it’s the crooked “legacy“ of UN that he is upholding. Hence the dire need for revamping the whole system. Preferably without Sudan on Human Rights Committee.

Right I dont mean to say the US is innocent in the ****ed up UN either, but on a case by case basis the fact is we donated $35 million in hours to the Tsunami victims and Kofi hasnt even said his prayers are with us or anything lol. Which I think you understood just clarifying =D

And there is another reason no one asks for peace keeping forces, they blow. Probably from a bad mix of on-the-fly configurations of different cultures, and messed up rules of engagement...

My favorite example is some place in Africa the government hired like 1k mercanaries from Executive Options, they fought the rebellion into peace talks... but the UN in their wisdom convinced the government to bag the mercenaries and accept instead, the 14k peace keeping troops from the UN. Well long story short it wasn't long before all 14 thousand were in full retreat.

And that 1k number of mercs may have been smaller I wish I remembered more details.

They've had their successes, I hear, but yea generally they just **** up ; D Thats what happens when you can't take sides though really. And is it hard to choose the established government or rebellion raping women with sticks and attempting a cleansing.... even if the government is corrupt I'd call that an easy choice.
